You know the so-called 'renewables' scam is beginning to come apart when even the ABC starts waking up : https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-09-12/robbins-island-appeal-turbine-shutdown-fo...

Lee, firstly, attacking the consensus does not vitiate the science.

So then you can tell us exactly what climate scientists agree on. Please tell us.

Linus wrote on Sep 11th, 2023 at 11:53pm:
Consensus on consensus: a synthesis of consensus estimates on human-caused global warming.

Poor Linus. Doesn't understand the papers or can't be bothered reading them. Relies on others to do it for him; but only if it agrees with his preconceptions. Grin Grin Grin Grin

Linus wrote on Sep 11th, 2023 at 11:53pm:
Those results are consistent with the 97% consensus reported by Cook et al (Environ. Res. Lett. 8 024024) based on 11 944 abstracts of research papers, of which 4014 took a position on the cause of recent global warming.

There's that link again the Linus doesn't want to read or comprehend. He doesn't want to deep dive into what the papers actually say. What a tosser. Wink

Actually, it is you who hasn't got the foggiest and believe in crackpot theories like the one proposed by that idiotic QLD senator on the pressure of greenhouse gases causing warming.  Grin Cheesy

No one in their right minds, and not the overwhelming majority of scientists and scientific institutions, dispute that the Earth's climate is changing, primarily due to human activities, and that this change poses significant risks to the environment and human societies. This consensus is based on extensive research and data collected by climate scientists around the world.

The climate change consensus is supported by the overwhelming majority of climate scientists and scientific organizations. Organizations such as The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), World Meteorological Organization (WMO), The Royal Society, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have consistently affirmed the reality of human-induced climate change. Thousands of peer-reviewed scientific studies contribute to this consensus.

One of the primary reasons for believing in the consensus is the extensive evidence of global warming. Average global temperatures have risen over the past century, with the last few decades experiencing particularly rapid warming. This warming trend is supported by a variety of temperature measurements, including surface temperature records, satellite data, and ice core sample.

The consensus is also based on the understanding that human activities, primarily the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas), deforestation, and industrial processes, are releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), trap heat and contribute to the greenhouse effect, leading to increased global temperatures.

Climate scientists rely on multiple lines of evidence, including not only temperature data but also changes in sea level, ocean acidity, and shifts in weather patterns. These various indicators consistently point to a changing climate driven by human activities.

Climate models, based on our understanding of physical and chemical processes in the atmosphere, have successfully reproduced past climate trends and are used to make future climate projections. These models have been validated against historical data and have proven to be reliable tools for predicting future climate changes.

Scientific research on climate change is subject to rigorous peer review by experts in the field. The fact that the consensus has withstood such scrutiny adds to its credibility.

International agreements, such as the Paris Agreement, are based on the climate change consensus. Countries around the world have recognized the need to take action to mitigate and adapt to climate change, further indicating the global acceptance of this consensus.

The consensus also draws strength from the observed and projected consequences of climate change, including rising sea levels, more frequent and severe heatwaves, changing precipitation patterns, and disruptions to ecosystems. These impacts are already being felt in various regions.

Keep pissing in the ocean, Lee, you still haven't  raised its level.  Roll Eyes Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

And here's a heads up.......you never will. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Roll Eyes

But not according to those people you listed. Why don't you want to read their actual papers instead of their circle jerk paper? Roll Eyes

And yet it is not 97% or anything like it. Cook - 32.6%, Lynas - 29.7%. Why do you not want to read their papers?  Roll Eyes

Your own quote - But even that is fallacious. From Table 3 of their paper 3896 papers not 4014 endorsed AGW out of 11,944. That is even on their misreading of their own paper would make it 4014/11944 which is 33.6%, not the 97% claimed. Shot yourself in the foot again. Roll Eyes

Now all you have to do is definitively link it to CO2. The IPCC hasn't been able to. It is likely, however, the earth is not a greenhouse and there are many cause of warming and cooling. Wink

GHG's do not "trap" heat. They accept heat and they emit heat, no entrapment. That is why CO2 is a coolant. (R744) Roll Eyes

Rubbish. The Paris Agreement was governments not scientists.  It would be far cheaper to adapt than mitigate, and they haven't worked that out yet. Roll Eyes

There has been no acceleration in SLR, it has been ongoing for thousands of years.  So what is the heatwave temperature where you live. It varies in the UK - 28C to Sydney- generally 30C.

If you know better about Earth's climate and what's happening to it better than the above, then convince these organisations... Good luck.

It seems JM is on the wacky weed. According to a paper he selected and on which he wrote glowingly - CO2 is not plant food. Moreover the paper supports a water vapour decrease in the atmosphere. Strangely CO2 theory disagrees. According to CO2 theory, water vapour should increase by 7% per 1C temperature change, and we have already had 1.5C. Roll Eyes

Like the rest of the gaggle of crackpots, that you're party to, who say, "Oh, the climate is always changing" you are being disingenuous with respect to the reality we're currently facing.

While climate change is a natural process, which you are angling at and using for obfuscation, human activities have significantly accelerated it. The burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes have released unprecedented amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, trapping heat and leading to more rapid and severe climate changes than the Earth has experienced in thousands of years.

Come on Lee, can you provide an explanation of how natural processes alone, without human influence, can account for the observed rate and magnitude of global temperature increase since the industrial revolution, and which scientific bodies or scientists are you relying on to support this viewpoint?i

Thousands of years? Rubbish. CO2c last about 5 years.

Are you on something or can't you read? I said with respect to the impact of GHG: "...leading to more rapid and severe climate changes than the Earth has experienced in thousands of years". I wasn't talking about their longevity.

But, anyway, with respect to to your barn-missing retort about the average lifespan of individual carbon dioxide molecules, you're hiding the overall cumulative amount in the atmosphere. We've gone from around 280ppm  to the current 480 ppm ( Keeling Curve ring any bells?).

And as to that science article you cited, it shoots you in the backside rather than supports your case:

"University of Chicago oceanographer David Archer, who led the study with Caldeira and others, is credited with doing more than anyone to show how long CO2 from fossil fuels will last in the atmosphere. As he puts it in his new book The Long Thaw, “The lifetime of fossil fuel CO2 in the atmosphere is a few centuries, plus 25 percent that lasts essentially forever. The next time you fill your tank, reflect upon this”3.

“The climatic impacts of releasing fossil fuel CO2 to the atmosphere will last longer than Stonehenge,” Archer writes. “Longer than time capsules, longer than nuclear waste, far longer than the age of human civilization so far.”
https://www.nature.com/articles/climate.2008.122

Clauser? Physicist who never wrote a peer reviewed climate paper.

Happer? Physicist and  a fossil fuel industry shill as exposed by Greenpeace. Oh, and selected for Trump's Committee on Climate Security.

Mainstream still standing firm against your shills.

Try harder, Lee.  Roll Eyes

Ok then CO2 is a stable gas with an impact lasting about 5 years. And the thousands of years? You want to forget about The Roman, The Minoan, The Holocene Optimum and the Mediaeval Warm Period? You can't even relate to your preferences. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

And?  What exactly has it done. BTW- The Keeling curve doesn't go back that far. And it hasn't reached anywhere near 480ppm. And the "around 280ppm"? That is theoretical, working backwards with many uncertainties. Roll Eyes
