High faecal contamination in Yarra River

The Victorian state government has failed to address unacceptable levels of faecal contamination in the Yarra River, according to the state opposition.

Environment Protection Authority data released by Mr Davis showed Docklands had readings 550 per cent above the allowed level of human faecal contamination this week.

High levels of faecal contamination were also recorded in the town Launching Place, east of Melbourne, with figures 110 per cent above the allowed level.

The results were recorded on Wednesday.

Mr Davis said issues such as leaky septic tanks along the Yarra had not been addressed by the government.
