Deepy -

Do you believe holidays are good for families/couples or do they put more pressure to'have fun' at all costs.
Sometimes in our determination to have fun- we somehow manage to have it(fun) elude us all together?

Why do you think this is.?

Holidays are excellent for couples as long as you remember to call her while you are away.  It's no fun being stuck at home while your partner is on holiday and likely to be rooting around.  A weekly call can make all the difference.

Esp christmas day. That is often the worst day of the year.
Put people together for an important day that generally have nothing to do with each other and have a LOT of baggage.
A recipie for disaster. I think it is a high risk time for suicides, domestics.

In holidays, similar thing. Everyone is in a different schedule, different place, spending lots of money .
All meant to be having fun. So if they aren't, it is all wrong.

 Shocked

Unfortunately this does happen DT- to you? Its a bit sad when pple no longer want to holiday together. R***t around mmm, now thats not nice and I could understand why hols would be unapppealing with this factored in.

Yes Sprint Christmas puts a lot of presssures on families. If that dreaded Aunt /sister/whoever calls and says" Im coming for Christmas".

What do you do, without making yourself look very uncharitable at Christmas?

This is one I already have to contend with this Christmas.

Suggestions on excuses DT?

I reckon the best thing to do if you are trying to get out of Christmas with relatives who are difficult is to make excuses early but try to catch up with the people earlier or later.  For example, "this Christmas Myrtle and I are going to be away/plan on a quiet Christmas at home/will be at the other partner's family's place etc, but we would like to organise a pre-Christmas/post-Christmas catch up at Hungry Jacks/McDonalds/The Ritz etc".

Then after it's organised and just before the event pull out at the last minute anyway.   Wink
