Australian TV comics escape trial over bin Laden prank

http://news.smh.com.au/australian-tv-comics-escape-trial-over-bin-laden-prank/20080428-2955.html

Australian television comics who breached security at a global summit by posing as part of a Canadian motorcade carrying an Osama bin Laden look-alike Monday had all charges against them dropped.

The team from The Chaser's War on Everything show came within metres of US President George W. Bush's hotel in September after their fake three-car convoy was waved through security checkpoints.

They were stopped only after one of the comedians from the show emerged from a car dressed as fugitive alleged terror mastermind bin Laden.

The prank made international headlines during the unprecedented security lockdown in Sydney for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit and proved a ratings winner for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Yeah, they are pretty good.  Their "Bin Laden" tape after the charges were dropped was classic.

Yeah. Great entertainment.

I watched it.

I know why a sniper did not take him/them out.

But, Chaser has no idea why.

Let's assume there was glitch in the discretion system, and a designated sniper was at large and took a shot.....and killed the media wanker.

That'd be funny, yes?

So they were detected, but not stopped? What if Osama bin Laden dressed up as Osama bin Laden and wandered in in full daylight to blow up a hotel or something? You don't have to kill people tos top them.

It's all conjecture FD.....but these idiots could have been taken out by security forces.

They can thank decisions made at some level.

At that level, some dude said, "Nah, don't shoot..................yet."
