I dislike disabled people
Jul 4th, 2007 at 4:33am

*START RANT*

Does that make me an evil person?

I don't mind the ones that were born normal and were in an accident or something (Vietnam vets)... becasue they're usually mild-mannered and quiet... but the ones that were born that way I cannot stand.

The reason? The fact that they're so arrogant and think they're gods gift to the earth.

Has anyone here met a disabled person that hasn't had a cocky personality? I certainly haven't.  Shocked
One the other day was a smug b@sterd in a wheel chair. He was intelligent (All of them usually are with all the time they spend reading books with nothing to do), yet, I couldn't help but feel that he was a little arrogant for his own good. I met this other guy who was born with one hand... same thing.

Now you'd think these disabled people would be a little humble wouldn't ya? -Not on your life.

The reason I think this is is becasue they've been spoon-fed the phrase from their birth.... "You're just as good as everyone else." OR "You're special." They're always given the best parking spots. People are always giving them encouragement. They've got their own special bathrooms, their own stairways.... etc  etc.
-Not that there's anything wrong with that... but the fact that's turning them into cocky b@sterds kinda annoys me something shocking.

Here's something that really annoys me that happened at my sisters graduation ceremony a few years back... there was this retarded African lady in a wheel chair.... she was always riding around campus... being rude and arrogant to everyone she passed... had the *worst* attitude ever.
Whilst everyone got a 'tiny' applause every time they went onto the stage and accepted their diploma (Including my sister)... this wheelchair lady got this GIGANTIC applause... for no other reason besides the fact that she was born as a cripple... what made her deserve it more? Did she work harder for it? Was she better than everyone else? -No. In fact, she was worse than everyone else. In fact... she had a personality to match her 'beauty' .... disgusting.

I'd imagine incidents like this would fuel their arrogance and belief that they're something 'special.' Even though in the old days they would have been dead by now accept for a stupid society that admires and nurtures weakness while the strong curl up and die.

While I agree that people who become disabled (From accidents etc) are nice people... the ones that are born that way are @ssholes and I'll stand by that statement.

Anyone have similar experiences or do you think I'm evil?

Excellent rant - 5/5 .

One of my brothers is an invalid by an accident. It has really screwed him up.  (He lost a lower half of a leg in a motorbike accident)
Perhaps the continual pain.  Being physically limited in his abilities has only made him drive himself further than any normal person. Which made his injuries much worse.

Disabled people make me feel uncomfortable.

most disabled pple are overcompensated for by the general public BECAUSE they are disabled.

I think theres a degree of guilt borne by each of us and we tend to overcompensate..the other thing is we dont know how to treat pple who are different..havent had enough exposure to them, and they seem abnormal and to compenste for our lack of understanding we pile on the sympathy/paternalistic cr ap.

Some disabled pple are very arrogant and rude..not all though.

I still wouldnt want to be them.

dont be upset DT..they cant help it..probably holding in a bit of anger, them not you Huh

Yes DT - that was an evil rant.  Wink  What do you think we should do?  Put them to death at birth?  Quite a few doctors do that and in the animal world this would also be a common occurrence.

But the thing is when a baby is born, no matter what the physiological difficulties that beset the child - parents want their baby to live.

Who knows whether it is right or wrong.  I know from personal experience with a family member who is dead now, that caring for a disabled person is one of the most difficult experiences that we could ever go through.

I think Sprintcyclist made a good point though - being in pain all the time and having others over-compensate in their attitude because of guilt  - makes many disabled people very very difficult socially.

I agree 100% DT, and yes mantra, they should be put to sleep at birth. Saves the parents unnessesary heartache and the taxpeyer money. Also helps keep the Gene pool strong Cool

It's going to be a worry Aus Nat when Generation Y - which you and DT are part of, get to have some power running this country.

My son and daughter have similar opinions - they are intolerant and quite hardline when it comes to compassion for those less fortunate or from a developing country and I assume it's because of the culture they have grown up in.  It seems to be the general attitude of this particular generation.

I hope I'm not around by the time Generation Y have influence over who needs to be euthanased and putting deformed children to sleep, but then I suppose the country will be so heavily in debt - there won't be the time or money to have any compassion.

Because we are the ones who are going to lose the most.

I'd say you will be, and these measures would try to be avoided unless they are really, really disabled.
If they can still think correctly and have some mobility they can still contribute to society.
But if they are severely mentally and/or physically disabled then they should recieve a quick, painless humane end at the end of a needle.

well Aussie.lets hope you never have to apply this theory to one of your children..

Interested. What would you do if you had to choose between putting your disabled baby son to sleep(knocking him on the head) or letting him live?

Knocking him on the head is out of the question! Im not a murderer. Can hospitals commit euthanasias if requested for retarded/spastic children?

I think it happens more often than we realise.  Occasionally you will hear a doctor say that the parents have decided not to use medical intervention and have let their baby die naturally.

I doubt that anyone would admit to euthanasia, but if your baby was badly deformed at birth - it's quite possible that there would be an agreement between the doctor and parents to help the baby die painlessly or perhaps some doctors would take the matter into their own hands.

Man... I don't think we should KILL THEM. That's out of the question... I just wish society would stop pandering to them like they do with Muslims.

I just want their attitude to disappear...

Killing is unnecessary. If you just treated them equally like everyone else nature by itself will take its course.

I hope I haven't upset anyone with this thread but it's something that I'm pretty passionate about.
