I think the problem is that there is always a tradeoff between rights. We have the right to do things, and the right to freedom from certain things. As societies get larger and more complex, we tend to have to give up our rights to do certain things in exchange for the right to freedom from certain things.

"All animals are equal.
Some are more equal than others."

Should some dole bludging ne'er do well  have the same rights as someone who contributes toward society ?

Equal opportunity is what equates as equal rights. And if you do not have equal opportunity, you probably have not yet qualified for the privilege due to some factor.

Wrong description of human economic relations, resulting from your unconscious attachment to the 'law of the jungle' in which humans evolved.

In fact we all need to work, ie contribute to the nation's well-being, according to our ability, in order to prosper.

That's why we need government to act as employer of last resort (ELR), when the private sector cannot employ everyone.

All rights are equal but the louder rights demands create more equal rights out of thin air.

Now then - that out of the way - are we discussing Rights here or rights?  Do you know the difference?

Difficult to critique that poorly contructed sentence, ....probably deliberate obfuscation....

But in any case 'rights' are inventions of the human cortex, not more than 'desires' as percieved by the unconsciously/instinctively self-interested individual. The UNUniversalDHR attempts to enumerate these "rights", as they relate to possession by all humans.

Addressed above. More obfuscation.

Now... have a shot at critiquing #5.

Tomorrow, this thread turns 16 years old. I feel remorse for resurrecting the thread.

Why? It's an important  topic.

Haven't you grown in wisdom over 16 years?

Try critiquing #5 and #8, since it's beyond graps.

contructed sentence
requiring an actualy mental acuity to work it through

ah yes - the killer 'social construct' defence, eh?

Question unanswered.

Now... have a shot at critiquing #5.
To what end? Already refuted by its very own invention and insertion... it's called a canard in the ring...

Ah.. I take it back - you CAN critique an argument, let's see what you got...

Quote:
requiring an actualy mental acuity to work it through ....

er , what's wrong with stating the point plainly?

Let's see:

1. "All rights are equal"
....so the desires of each self-interested individual are "equal" - but are they compatable?

2. "but the louder rights demands..."

hmm,  you mean your "rights" compared with my "rights".....?

3. ..create more equal rights out of thin air."

...an interesting reference to how money is created,  whether in private banks as at present, or by the national treasury which is the necessary reform of the financial system. But you will see in my subsequent comments "rights" are indeed ALSO created out of thin air..

You will need  to disprove that point, to advance your views on "rights".

Quote:
ah yes - the killer 'social construct' defence, eh?

Yes - pending your reasoned  refutation.

Quote:
Question unanswered.

True; so I think we are discussing both "rights" (which are mere individual desires), AND "Rights",  which are addressed in the UN Universal DHR.

Quote:
To what end? Already refuted by its very own invention and insertion... it's called a canard in the ring...

On the contrary I have analyzed and critiqued all your submissions; whereas your best effort is "ah yes - the killer 'social construct' defence, eh?"...without any attempt to reasonably  refute it.

Here it is again:
But in any case, 'rights' are inventions of the human cortex, no more than 'desires' as perceived by the unconsciously/instinctively self-interested individual

Surely you can see the error in it?  (Even if I can't...).
