Exceptional stereo
Apr 14th, 2007 at 4:49pm

Just bought a new stereo. It is a Yamaha "Pianocraft" Model.
Exceptional sound clarity and reproduction. Probably the best stereo I have ever heard.
Most stereos exaggerate or diminish one frequency range. This one has a VERY even response.
It is designed to play whole notes - more suited to classical, jazz etc etc.

Plays DVDs etc, so can pay a movie on it through to tv, has all sorts of outputs I never use. Optical, Coax, etc.

I am a music lover and this one is exceptional.

When the guy put a classical CD on it in the shop today everyone arond there was silent to listen to it !!

Good price, was originally $1000, now a $900 at Harvey Normans.

Technical specifications of Yahama "Pianocraft"

For the technically minded music lovers

Amp :
Total Harmonic distortion 0.04 % or less, 20 Hz - 20 Khz.
Signal to noise level 93 dB or more.

Speakers :
Frequency response 55 Hz - 28 kHz @ -10 dB

DVD/CD player :
Signal to noise @ 1Khz - 105 dB
Dynamic range @1kHz - 97dB

During an Andrea Bocelli album, right behind the whole orchestra the triangle gives a gentle chiiiinnnngggggg
Never heard that note before, or the following triangle notes before.

Got a small yamaha home theatre system and a yahama electronic/electric piano already.
They make the worlds better pianos, they know what they are on about.

Pianocraft's exacting standards

It really excels on "better" music. More skilful, complex exacting music.
The subtle nuances in the music is apparent and almost on display.
Good vocals on it are .......... noice.  (courtesy of kath and kim)
On contrast, music like "John Lee Hooker" (Boom Boom) do not benefit much (at all) from such clarity.
As such, it sounds pretty average, as it is really.

Got Pirates of the Caribbean on. Heart pumping stuff.

Within an orchestra, I can pick out a violin that is not identical in pitch to the others.
That discernment would be unnoticeable on most other stereos. It'ld be lost in the noise and responses.

I might buy another one.  My g/f has a phillips stereo  Sad .
Should ban things like that, what a thing to do to music.

Bought some new leads for the pianocraft today.
read on the net from audio buffs the standard leads should be thrown away immediately. (nerds are like that).

So got 4 meters of oxygen free leads (what does that mean?).
has quite changed the stereo. Sounds as though it reaches the bass areas more freely.
Compartively the treble is not as pronounced.
Speakers are located where higher pitched sounds may well transmit/vibrate better.
Also did another modification, put the speakers on lazy susans, so I can rotate them to face the area i am in.
Will get some an audio insulating mat to put under and on top of the lazy susans.
The susans are cheap light plastic and may accentuate the higher frequencies.

Yamaha call it "natural sound", pretty good call.

Update on Exceptional stereo

Have replaced the speaker wires with high quality ones - This helped it to reach the lower quality music. Quicker response to there.

With such an improvement I bought some high quality audio leads. To go from cd player to amp.
This stopped completely the noise level . The specs are good, this is now about the specs.

Sat the speakers on a small lazy susan each. SO I can spin them towards me in any room.
Got cork board as vibration/audio insulation betweeen speaker and lazy susan, then again between lazy susan and shelf.
between the shelf and the lazy susan/cork boards is a square of commercial quality carpet.

Ooooohhhhh, Louie Armstrong  is really nice. Played a new Mozart before.

This is aural loving.

first time I have listened to Andre Bocelli since the "updates" on the system.

Listened as in "really listened", eyes closed, feeling.
Been to plenty of live operas, this is like any of those.
