IRAN

The United Nations security council has voted unanimously to adopt a draft resolution for more sanctions against iran.
The sanctions include a ban against iranian arms exports and financial restictions against an expanded list of officials and companies.
The U.S, France, Britain and Germany had initially favoured stronger measures but agreed to compromise with russia and china.
The world powers hope the move will send a strong message that tehran will only further isolate itself by refusing to suspend uranium enrichment.

Oh boy, its getting closer to another world war......

I would think russia and china would more stay within UN than side with iran. Do you think the UN has more "authority" now with the war in iraq? For decades the UN has been someone to be ignored. That perception (reality) is different now.

For decades the UN has been someone to be ignored. That perception (reality) is different now.

The U.N has no involvement in iraq. it is an American/Aussie/British affair.

Well on russia and china, its all if they are willing to sacrifice themselves for iran.
But all 3 are anti-American.

He was but the U.N did not go into that war.
If i were to explain the symptoms of the lead up to war i'd be here all night.
Here's an example, in the late 1930's America placed sanctions on japan and once their supplies ran low, it forced japan to expand, rolling through s/e asia to keep up their supply of oil, rubber, ore and foodstuffs.
Notice how blockaded countries tend to become more aggressive rather than silenced?

Am currently reading a book of short stories by an irish author. Seems authors of different nationalities have different styles. I like the russian ones. This irish one has a definite irish "lilt" to his stories.

You can't be suggesting that a war ravaged third world nation (Iran) is comparable to pre WW2 industrialised Japan? They may be getting aggressive, but Iran lacks some serious military credibility that Japan did have.
