"I have never felt so terrified': Harassment of female runners a gendered issue with no simple solution".

It's an eye-opener.

The answer is - do your running at the gym.

Any woman could tell you it's "that bad", Herbie.

Have you not been paying attention to what we've been saying?

I haven't been reading the women's section of OzPol, I admit.

I am genuinely surprised by the sheer number of females saying they have these perverts to contend with out there on the streets of Australia.

You're not going to like what I say, but it's my guess the most crude harassment comes from Southern European ethnics, Arabs, and Turks.

Some Anglo-Aussie, yes - but mostly it's a cultural thing which I know the Italians, Greeks, and Yugoslavs indulge in for reasons of demonstrating their macho-male credentials. I worked with them for decades, so let's not waste our time with baby-steps on this.

FFS, I hope this is just more of Herbie's trolling, and not a genuine case of astounding ignorance.

"Some Anglo-Aussie, yes" ??

Get your hand off it, you silly old dust-farter.

I'd bet your left nut that the majority of offenders are Anglo-Aussies.

You don't have a left nut Pecca. It wouldn't be Anglos in most of Sydney  because we are a minority. Wogs are really bad for this behaviour. Particularly Indians.

I'd bet Herbie's left nut, and your little right one, that the majority of offenders are white Aussies/Poms/Irish lads.

Just ask Ajax and John Smith if open harassment of women isn't a cultural tradition in their countries. I'm hoping they'll be honest with their answers.

And then we take a look at South America ...

It's time you did your research.

PS. The rude habit of 'staring', as you'll read here, is common to all the ethnic nationalities south of Middle Europe, and then South America, Spain, Portugal and the Yugoslav republics.

You have no idea what goes on here Pecca Breath. Migrants are flooding into the country who have funny ideas about women and they all move to Sydney or Melbourne. Not Victoria Park.

Incorrect.

Just another display of your unbelievable ignorance.

Why are you wasting time in this thread, when there's a rape to defend?

You don't have a left nut Pecca. It wouldn't be Anglos in most of Sydney  because we are a minority. Wogs are really bad for this behaviour. Particularly Indians.

There will be different groups, depending on the suburb.

Overall, though, white Australians (and Irishmen) will be the main offenders.

In particular, stay away from the leather-skinned Australians in budgie smugglers who hang around North Bondi.

Stats would probably say white anglo men as they make up the majority of the population, but Middle Eastern men punch way above their weight compared to the % of population.

Indian guys are by far the perviest. They leer and stare shamelessly. Ever been to India..very creepy.
As for attacks, they're more opportunistic than aggressive, like when a woman falls asleep in their taxi they'll have a go.

Asians are probably the best behaved of all.

Just ask Ajax and John Smith if open harassment of women isn't a cultural tradition in their countries. I'm hoping they'll be honest with their answers.

And then we take a look at South America ...

It's time you did your research.

Do my research?

I am a woman, Herbie.

I know full well who objectifies me.

You have no idea of those cultures that inhibit this behaviour as impolite and disrespectful to women, and those cultures that encourage it as being Alpha-male and a public declaration of not being homosexual.

The Anglo-cultures would be the least of all to openly leer at and make a woman feel uncomfortable, with meanwhile, with such as the Arabs, Italians and South Americans it is almost de rigueur and a cultural imperative that they wave their dicks at the women by way of ogling, whistling, shouting out suggestions, etc etc.

Isn't it interesting that on a thread about objectifying women, you're not taking a woman's actual experience into account over your racism?

Interesting indeed (not surprising, though).

What's also interesting, is Gordon's insistence that India is in Europe (or is it South America?).

;D   You couldn't make this stuff up.

It's probably in the Middle East, according to Gordy.

That's his favourite region to denigrate.

Still largely Asian though. But there is a bit of Africa and Europe in there for good measure.

The main perpetrators are white Australian/English/Irish.  Fact.

If you want to keep trolling, you irrelevant old dust-farter, you're gonna have to develop a thicker skin.

Let's not waste our time with baby-steps on this, Herbert: when trolling doesn't go your way, you pick up your bat & ball and go running home (crying) to Mummy.

India is in Asia, Gordon.

Indians are Asian.

And, back to the thread topic, they aren't the main offenders in the OP.

Just chalk this up as a learning experience, and move on.

Yes Greggey, we all know that but in Australia colloquially Chinese,Viet,Korean,Thai etc are referred to as Asians.
Are you posting from Australia or have you already moved to Moldova?

Here's an example of our 'diversity' broadcaster using the same colloquialism.

They even did a show called Luke Nguyen's Street Food Asia.
Can you show me the episode from the streets of Delhi?  ;D

Here's a good explanation or you.

In the UK we have substantial populations of Pakistanis, Bangladeshis
and Sri Lankans who come from the Indian subcontinent: too many of them
would be offended by being lumped together under the general tem
'Indians'.  The majority of Indians are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists; the
majority of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are Moslem, so they tend to feel
their cultural differences quite strongly.

In contrast, although we have a significant Chinese population, there
are comparatively few Japanese, Koreans or Indonesians, so identifying
them all by a single generic term never happened.

If you mean the Mongaloid race like Japanese, Chinese (east Asians) then you are wrong about Indians Pecca Breath. Indians are a mixture of the Negroid and Mongaloid races. They are different racially to east Asians who Gordon was referring to.

Dravidian's are negroids. They certainly aren't racially Asian as pecca is making them out to be. The only  reason they are classified Asian is because they live there.

I read once that the Dravidians are related to the Australian Aborigines. So yeah, not Asian. And the pure Dravidians certainly don't look Asian.

It's common knowledge for Sydney women that out at night, Indian guys are pests who stare and leer and go for the occasional grope.

Middle Easterners just cut to the chase and rape.

"Consequently, most Indian men grow up thinking of women not as fellow human beings, but as some alluring, tantalising Other who must be objectified and dehumanised.

"Its quite another thing to stare at them unblinkingly, as if you can visually undress them and do unmentionable things to them.

That attitude has a lot to do with our patriarchal culture.

In Indian culture, sex is something that men DO to women. It's not regarded as a mutually pleasurable activity where there is no power play involved.

Indian men think of sex in terms of power and dominance, rarely in terms of respect, pleasure, reciprocity, intimacy and tenderness".

Enough said.

How I was publicly masturbated at & staying safe in India.
By Lucy on March 15, 2015 in Incredible India : Blog, Musings, Travel Tales

A few days ago I was sitting in a bus stop in Mumbai, India. The local guy that I had paid no particular attention to moved closer. From the corner of my eye, to my horror, I realised that he had pulled out his penis and was masturbating, staring intently at me. I felt sick.

As much as I hate to admit it, this isn’t the first time it’s happened to me. In fact, chances are, if you’ve ever been to India, you’ll have bumped into at least one traveller who has experienced this sort of behaviour, or heard of someone else who it has happened to. I’ve spent countless hours with other travellers picking apart why men do it; why they seem to think it’s okay, why dignity seems to disappear when there’s foreign female flesh on show.

I simply referred to Asians and Indians in the colloquial manner as is customary in Australia.

Yay-yes....

Today's India offers a lot of opportunities to women, with women having a voice in everyday life, the business world as well as in political life. Nevertheless India is still a male dominated society, where women are often seen as subordinate and inferior to men. This gender bias is the cause that SAARTHAK is fighting for; therefore, in the following we will focus on the wrongs rather than on the rights.

India. India has little kids who beg for a living. Scumbags get kids and cut their arms off etc so people give them money. Some Indians kill people so they can sell their organs. Indian women have to produce a dowry and loads of Indian men get the money and whack the woman. Plus honour killings. Woman aren't even allowed to marry out of their village or caste in many cases. No offence aussie, but it's a well known fact that India has a very troubling human rights reputation. Comparing Australia and India is wrong.

I can understand 'Aussie' leaping to the defence of India's reputation in this regard, but he should feel secure enough to admit there is a problem without believing he might be betraying his wife and in-laws.

Thank you for your superior condescension Herbert, but you are posting garbage.  Perhaps decades ago, you might have been correct, and even to also describe English culture as patriarchal....but not now.  Did you see my question?

Which Country was first to have a female PM.  India, England, Australia?
And which country puts little kids in sweat shops?

Dunno.  Where was this, do you reckon?

No, those images are of English kids who were 'employed' in English factories.

We have no right to point a finger of scorn at Asian counties.

It is very sad, I know, but females should NOT go running/jogging alone. Day or Evening!

I have seen too many "Disappeared" episodes about single females going for their daily jog in ordinary "safe" environments ( a couple of "domestics" a year) never to be seen again ... until, eventually, if that, their body is discovered dumped on the side of the road like a bag of garbage.

FEMALES are NOT safe anywhere since males, regardless of their upbringing, seem to think females are "game" ...

Oh and why are they calling rape "sexual abuse"?  RAPE is rape. Forceful intercourse ... is this the PC brigade trying to downgrade a CRIMINAL OFFENCE again?

So, to address this:

Quote:
India has little kids who beg for a living.

Correct, not just little kids either.

Quote:
Scumbags get kids and cut their arms off etc so people give them money.

Yeas, I have heard allegations that poor parents have deformed their children so they are more appealing in their begging.  Not sure how accurate those allegations are.

Quote:
Some Indians kill people so they can sell their organs.

Far more likely to happen in Thailand, Cambodia and even Vietnam.

Quote:
Indian women have to produce a dowry and loads of Indian men get the money and whack the woman.

The 'dowry' was paid by the Brides Family.  Ridiculous custom.  I have never seen an Indian Man whack a woman.  I have seen plenty of Australian men whacking and even have read of them killing women at an alarming weekly rate.

Quote:
Plus honour killings. Woman aren't even allowed to marry out of their village or caste in many cases.

Well, dunno how I managed to jag a Brahmin!

Quote:
No offence aussie, but it's a well known fact that India has a very troubling human rights reputation.

Indeed it does, but it is not Pat Malone.

Quote:
Comparing Australia and India is wrong.

Not sure about 'wrong' but agree very different.

Mr Hammer and Mr Aussie are arguing about 2 different things.

1. Mr Aussie is married to an INDIAN ... presumably born in England, but not necessarily so.

2. Mr Aussie, IF he has actually had a visit to INDIA would not have seen how the natives live, since his INDIAN WIFE is "English" and undoubtedly brought up when India was BRITISH.

3. She is still dark skinned and no matter what sort of British background she came from ... mixed marriages are still a no no in genteel society.

4. Getenze sxufz.

Meanwhile, Google has pages of information about India and its unsavoury reputation for having a culture that fosters a Neanderthal attitude towards women which has been underscored by rallies and marches through the streets of the subcontinent in protest of the vile attitude so many Indian men hold towards women.

Rape is epidemic in India.

My daughter is a good looking girl..she can tell you how bad it is..she has been harrassed and chased by these creeps..having to run down side streets to escape and it is escape, when you have to run for your life,, going home from work or out getting exercise..my daughters running routine used to have me wracked with worry..I even told her dress in baggy  clothes, cover your hair so they can't identify you as female.. that a mother should have to say that to her daughter is bad enough..but even worse is to have a cop turn up at your door and ask you come indentify her body, which is /was a real worry for me..

Jesus Christ, that really is appalling. That is just so wrong. It's not how Australia is supposed to be.

No girl or woman should be without her mobile phone, and the police should snap to attention quick-smart whenever a call comes in from some female being stalked or harassed on the streets.

It's not acceptable in a civilised society.

Corporal punishment should be brought back for these bastards - Singapore fashion.

From all accounts Bill Clinton was just as bad, if not worse.

But what we're talking about here is the sheer volume of sexual harassment of women out and about in the public domain.

But then again, what the Far Left might describe as 'sexual harassment' - others might dismiss as simply nothing more than men openly showing their admiration for a pretty woman.

Is it 'sexual harassment' when men on a building site whistle at a half-naked woman jogging in short pants?

Hey Greggy. If you were cooking an Indian curry from scratch where would you go to obtain the ingredients?

Kongs Victoria Park Pty Ltd - Retail
784 Albany Highway East Victoria Park 6101 WA Ph (08) 9362 2817

Or

Arsh Indian Grocery
Grocery Wholesalers - East Victoria Park, WA
Unit 8 912 Albany Hwy, East Victoria Park WA 6101

Neither.

Too far away.

I go to the Seoul Mart.

Would you go to an Indian grocer for kim chi or an asian one?   :D
I'll answer for him- an ASIAN one.

If you asked for Kim chi at an Indian grocer they'd wobble their head and say yes sir thousand apologies sir  we don't sell kim chi please go up the road to the Asian grocer.  I'll call my taxi driver brother Raj he will take you there.

You're so easily confused, Gordy, I'm surprised you can put your budgie smugglers on the right way around in the morning.

All Indians from India are Asians, but not all Asians are Indians.

Just remember: all bananas are yellow, but not everything yellow is a banana. You found that out the hard way, didn't you Gordy?

Victoria Park probably doesn't have an Asian grocer. I'm sure it's got a white South African grocer.

An Indian grocer is an Asian grocer, Gordy.

Have you learned nothing today?

Three Sisters Salad

In Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) villages, as in many other Native communities, women planted, hoed, weeded, and harvested communally, often working in large groups. The staple crops they grew — corn, beans and squash — came to be known as The Three Sisters. Not only do the three foods grow well together (the beans climb the natural trellis provided by the cornstalks, while the broad-leaved squash plants spread out below, preventing weeds and keeping moisture in the soil), but when cooked together they provide nearly complete nutrition.

Here, grilled squash and corn are mixed with cranberry beans and yellow and red tomatoes.
