Title: Best free forum Software Post by Redneck on Jan 25th, 2016 at 5:27pm
Well I have evaluated a few of the forums software types including
Yabb forum as used here phpBB as used on the site we are not allowed to mention according to Aussie SMF Forum My opinion is SMF is by far the best and easiest to use, has multitudes of mods that even I can use. It is even easy to modify unusual mods for your own site Your thoughts? |

Why bring me into that crap? It was not me who was making the demands and issuing threats recently. It was the GMod, perceptions now. |

Sorry, I can't see the humour in putting at my feet what perceptions now is 100% responsible for.

I failed the subject 'esp' at school. I also must have missed the bit where you are supposed to pee yourself laughing for being held accountable for something someone else was 100% responsible for. |

I have used YaBB and phpbb. YaBB has some serious shortcomings which I keep butting up against with the member run boards. PHPBB gives you much finer control, but has a steeper learning curve. I am not sure if the extent of the layout modifications I have done here would be possible with PHPBB.

Thanks Freediver,
I am playing around with SMF again ( also php based), I used it years ago and used many of their mods. Crashed it numerous times in the process but managed to solve the problems which usually related to clashes between the different mods. Usually only involved slightly altering the mod load files. Anyway Cheers |

Most work fine, it is more a case of what features are available from my point of view. Was more interested in what the techo admin types thought! The trouble is I have a techo background and like fiddling! |

Not sure how freediver will feel about the name though as it was picked in a moment of annoyance at Ozpol Bear in mind it is classed as a test site at the moment as no one has posted anything "How Embarrassment Effie!" http://www.ozpoliticssux.com/forum/ |

No worries! Well there is techo and techo you know, what are they all IT related degrees or diplomas?? As a 71 year old, I go back a long way before IT was even heard of. But worked in in electrical/electronics fields a lot of my working life |

You are a real technician then, Not many around. By my time there was not a lot of bench techs about as it was mostly modular throw away at the board level where I worked. I also worked well before IT but eventually fell into the field. |

This is not the newest version of YaBB by the way. 2.6.11 works very well out of the box and is probably the fastest of the lot to set up. It still has the page turn bug, but all forum software has bugs of one kind or another.
Phpbb is one of the best, and Small Machines is not a bad choice either. If you have a specific design in mind, all will need to be customised. |

Yes, would be interested. Presumably my board name will appear properly, not as “polenimal. . .” about time that substitution is removed.
What about my FaceBook page, https://www.facebook.com/FriendsOfTheNationalBroadbandNetwork it has over 500 Likes and has a normal postreach of 5–600 but has gone to nearly 2000. |

Removed the link to OzPol from Aussie’s board. Seems FD wants to play funny buggers.
Link to my board working, FD or shall I remove the link to here from my board as well? |
