Why has the yahoo message boards been down for over 3 days?

The forum has no replies for days.
No one can reply.
That is why I joined this forum.

The message board is back without any explanation.

As far as modding goes on this board Lisa, I think you will find that we are pretty relaxed here, and we do allow more freedom on the "Member Run Boards", but generally speaking if the language is not threatening, or racist, or grossly offensive, then it will normally be acceptable.
Freediver is in charge of this forum, and he started it, and his solid principles of defending Free Speech, are pretty well respected by most members, who appreciate the freedom brings with it the responsibility to use it fairly.
I'm mozzaok, or moz if you prefer, and I try and check the boards daily, but a PM to me is probably the quickest way to bring any issue to attention, that may need modding.
Locutius also moderates here, and will also help to settle issues whenever he can.
So basically, FD has set the tone of this place as being pretty open, and honestly we hardly ever need to intervene, as most people here self modify if they need to, but if we do get pests, just attempting to make a nuisance of themselves, they are pretty swiftly booted.

So welcome, and I look forward to adding my thoughts to some posts from our new members.

His posts on THIS forum to date tell the story .. and the backlash by others who have had enough of his nonsense .. tell the rest of the story.

He has closed down Yahoo .. and the tragic thing is this: he told me on IM that that has been his objective for some years.

Best advice I can give .. given the experience we've all had with this tragic human being .. is to stay well away from him and let him post to himself. Post over him and totally ignore him .. treat him as though he isn't even there.

Hello all you yahoos, I notice that you have not wasted anytime getting down and dirty with each other, but for those of you who may have scores that you want to settle with old protagonists, just make sure you do it without going overboard.

This board has built in censorship, which means if I write that something is bullshit, I can, but if I say, what a load of sh1t, I can't, as it will come up as "poo" when I post it.
The f-bomb comes up as bugger, as automatic censorship programs seem to be biased in favour of reargaurd actions, instead of frontal assaults.

So with that in mind, be nice to each other, do not be nasty, and if I may suggest that you try to be witty if you have a put down for someone, because it makes it far more entertaining for the rest of us.

I have only had to ban one person here, and they were duller than a spoon, and far less useful, so I would prefer to keep it that way.

So look on this place as a fresh start, be witty, be controversial, voice your ideas and opinions, but please try not to be deliberately mean and hurtful, because when I see that I get really p1ssed off, and I prefer not being p1ssed off.

to people because there are so many active posters.
Sometimes you wait a day for a reply here - or more

You would think Yahoo are saving money by zapping the weekend postings. A common enough measure these days.
References have been made to this site and you would expect yahoo to check this site out.  Perhaps even have a few posters from their own staff mixing with the masses and the lack of faces on there boards...market research??

On the censorship of topics Bobby, potentially they could start bushfires and yahoo couldn't control them, see also the loss of face! Ultimately, they delete the inflammtory posts but the damage has been done.  The volume of postings means their mods would be swamped at times...not a job I'd want to be doing :)

The Race card and religion plus a bit of politicking are all subjects which get out of hand and always get folks going at the bbq even the best of mates. That is in your back garden the message boards are basically open, even deleting posts is worse because seasoned vets know what was said and not tolerated.

I just found myself able to get back into Yahoo on my thy.nemesis ID.

Yesterday it rejected my ID as non-existent, now I can get in again...

BTW, it has been so long since my last blacklisting, that I now remember that the blacklisting message was phrased in no uncertain terms...

Perhaps I couldn't get back in because I had previously chosen to close the window when I was requested to validate my Yahoo ID...

Anyway, it is rather ironic that I am now back in business on a forum that is currently closed for business...

I agree, there is some rubbish posted on here, by some posters and they need to have a good look at themselves.

Now, in the land of reality, I suggest that is unlikely to happen!

So, what is needed, is for Yahoo to -
1) Have a good filter, to get rid of the standard offensive words.
2) Have Moderators, who delete the posts of those who try to get around truly offensive words, with some fancy foot work.
3) Look at repeat offenders, who seriously "test" the boundaries AND that Yahoo then take well advertised actions against those repeat offenders, including suspensions and a final recourse of a permanent deletion - eg. 3 strikes & your out!
4) Restrict each person to one ID!

It is Yahoo who finally has most to lose, from this situation, I suggest that their management give it some very serious consideration.

I find the mods are very biased towards the Liberals,pherhaps because john howards son works there. also they have a extreme rightwinger (john masters)who posts a lot of propaganda lies and then abuses people who debate and present facts to correct him,then they get slandered, but he seems to have complete imunity from the rules given to other posters about forum behaviour. >:(

After this election, (should Labor win)...our internet censtatorship will be be rolled out, (November apparently) ..and any sites (particularly social media portals like yahoo)  seen to be anti-government, opposed to censorship or be upholding the uncensored right to free-speech will be heavily fined, or forced to close.

Think of Yahoos curfews as a pre-electoral suck-up for the purpose of surviving this coming election, if Labor gets in, it will continue imposing curfews, closures, this and being heavily moderated, (not wanting to risk some verbose poster or imbecilic troll offending the almighty Gill-Ruddtatorship.

Get used to it...  why do you suppose many sites have been closing down lately, this and being forced to strictly moderate/silence their boards?

It's the political spool they are worried about more than the trolls or the other garbage that frequents these sites. They have put up with these morons and grubs for years, why the sudden change of heart?

::)... And if GillRudd gets in , I dare say this site among others will be on their hit list in the lead up to the 2013 election, this one being a rather non-event and all.

Vote with your conscience people, because so much depends on it, this is a silent election, whereby neither party intend on putting much in the way of policies on the table.

Voters have never been so ill-informed or bewildered, unaware as to what it is they are supposed to be voting for policy wise this election, it's more like a  bi-election...given the position for PM has recently become vacant in the Labor party...this and wont be officially filled until we vote Labor in.

Remember, Gillard isn't the Australian peoples PM, she was selected by her parties back-biting power-brokers.

Coming from a party which have had 5 premiers in the last 5 years, and 2 PM's in the last 3...and enough scandal to give Big Brother a run for it's money, I'm surprised they haven't  provided us with a 1300 number to vote for them, the way we might vote for a house-mate being booted off Big brother.

I think the usual yahoo trolls are outnumbered here, this and generally aren't interested in discussing politics, so only make a few tardy remarks here and there, then leave again, so don't think we have too much to worry about.

Best to ignore them, it's a reaction they want.

It was, but it wasnt just the politics boards that are shut.

In my opinion, shutting them has done them far more harm that what additional moderating would have.  The traffic there has slowed considerably, which will affect their advertising dollar.

Personally, I don't have a problem with people not having the same views as me, as that is simply what I would regard as a fact of life, given the different life experience that everyone has.

I think the Trouble is with forums as I pointed out once before..its hard not to be social sometimes..Im guessing especailly from coming from yahoo that its a hard habit to break... :'(

anyway , so far I didnt think it was too to  bad as most yahoo talk stayed in limited topics.. so thats a positive.. :)

I have made a few innocuous posts in a couple of threads, but, so far, have spent more time reading and feeling my way, rather than just jumping in feet-first.

But I like what I've seen so far ;)

It's a good forum Kat. It seems to be better moderated .. which is a welcome relief!
