Bicycles are bad for the capitalist economy
Nov 4th, 2025 at 3:28pm

Here’s what a banker once said, making economists pause for a moment.
“A cyclist is a disaster for the economy,” he explained.
“He doesn’t buy a car or take out loans to pay for it.
He doesn’t pay for car insurance.
He doesn’t buy fuel.
He doesn’t use paid parking or expensive repairs.
He doesn’t cause major accidents.
He doesn’t need highways built just for him.
And worst of all — he stays healthy.
Healthy people don’t buy as many medicines.
They rarely visit hospitals.
They don’t contribute to the GDP through sickness.”

A cyclist also has very good mental health.

I consider bicycles to be more dangerous than motorbikes -

cars come up behind you and you don't have eyes
in the back of your head to avoid them -
at least with a motorbike you are going at the same speed or faster than the cars.

I have heard of many people being killed or having life changing accidents
while riding bicycles.

I wonder what this banker would have to say about us Seniors Card holders here in WA who get free public transport outside of morning and afternoon peak hours and all day Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays?

It's nearly 2 months since I got rid of my car and I've already saved a fortune.

The "capitalist economy" can kiss my @ss.  Grin

Al'balony would love this.
He would rather put $20m (it will suck up more) for an NRL team in PNG, than do a base yearly grant of $6m for Little Wings (for Rural and outback kids for medical) for kids.
It's all about priorities.

A long time ago, around the depression decades. Bicycles were used more than vehicles in Australia with workers travelling 30km to and from work.

Here's something else that p!sses me off about this "capitalist economy":

It appears to be all well and good for greedy businesses and wealthy individuals to make as much money as they can (sometimes illegally and while paying as little in tax as possible, of course) but when Joe and Jane Average make any attempts to save themselves money then that is seen as a bad thing.

As I said - this "capitalist economy" (and the government) can kiss my @ss.

The current Govt isn't capitalist ... it's pushing toward communism.

So the alternative to capitalism is worse.

You will own nothing & you will like it.  Roll Eyes

Grow a brain. Albo will soon have removed all of your freedoms.... but you're too dumb to see it.
