Brittany Higgins has to pay out $341,000

Former WA senator Linda Reynolds wins defamation battle against Brittany Higgins

...
Former Senator Linda Reynolds has been successful in her defamation battle against Brittany Higgins. (ABC News: Glyn Jones)

Former WA senator Linda Reynolds has won her defamation case against former staffer Brittany Higgins over social media posts.

...

Justice Paul Tottle ruled the posts were defamatory and ordered Ms Higgins to pay $315,000 plus $26,000 interest, though one post was deemed as an honestly held opinion and fair comment.

Former West Australian senator Linda Reynolds has won her high-profile defamation case against her former staffer Brittany Higgins, whom she had accused of conducting an orchestrated campaign to end her political career.

It brings to an end a six-year saga of accusations and counter accusations between the two women, at least for now, pending a possible appeal by Ms Higgins.

From the outset, I found Higgins' story to be a tad unreliable. The way the Labor government handled it was just appalling. Glad that Reynolds has succeeded here.

The whole episode stinks. Both Higgins and Bruce Lehrmann are vile individuals, but there was zero physical evidence of any rape but there were phone records prior, where Higgins was conspiring to damage the Morrison government in the hope of bringing about a Labor victory.

On the contrary, she deserves every cent.

Higgins is now officially a liar.

Justice Paul Tottle identified no fewer than 26 different ‘false or misleading aspects’ from Brittany Higgins’ media appearances.

With any luck she will have to pay costs too. All that money that was gifted to her ... Easy come, easy go.

The whole thing is just a dark stain on Australian politics.

I suspect that there are some labor politicians hoping they don’t get asked any questions.

Why was she gifted 2 million taxpayer dollars?

Albo was almost tripping over himself to pay Higgins with taxpayer funds (a huge mistake in my opinion). I bet he thought this was something he could whack the Coalition with.

This gets betterer and betterer ...   Grin

‘Entirely understandable’ for Reynolds to feel ‘a bit creeped out’ by Sharaz post

...

Judge Paul Tottle rules Brittany Higgins’ husband
David Sharaz must pay Linda Reynolds $92,000 in damages plus potential $500,000 in legal costs
over defamatory and ‘intimidatory’ social media posts.

Chickens have come home to roost. Crying this will financially ruin her & her husband.

Should of thought about that from the get go.

Maybe she could hit Lisa Wilkinson & her bandana wearing(hide circumcision scar) old man up for a loan?

Lisa should have plenty of money to help Brittany she has her Cremorne mansion up for sale asking over $13 million.

Well - this sordid deal shed a lot of light on the machinations of the political pundits - the things they get up to and how they view your hard-earned as just a slush fund... and how they completely ignore any approximation of legality ...

I started off from a position of holding zero brief for Reynolds, but came to the realisation that she had tried very hard to be fair about things, and did not deserve the hammering she copped.

Brittany and Bruce are products of their generation and their social milieu ... and in politics, lacking as they were in effective role models, they also thought the sky was the limit... and they could just do whatever they wanted... being 'staffers' they ere above such considerations that bind the ordinary person...

Australia dodged a bullet not having those two in as politicos... can you imagine... and don't put it past St Brittany to make a comeback as Joan of Arc defending the poor suffering women (again, again, again - give it a rest)... she's in the Gillard stable at the moment in what looks like a UN funded job hitting the big time promoting goodies for the girls... and we all know about Gillard's latest rip-off of Australian money with the connivance of her Labor mates... my god how the money rolls in!

As for St Bruce - he seems to be in endless trouble - a charge of stealing a car in Tas Mania being the latest... someone is out to get him for sure.

What did he know?  What did he see? What did he do? Why was Parliament House security so lax?  We all know that EVERY traitor in history has been a trusted insider.... and yet the doors to Defence were wide open.... couple of sheila private agency guards on the gates... WTF?
