Fascinating little creatures, When I was young seen a lot swimming around in the weeds at a bay I snorkelled where my Gran lived. They are about 3 inches the shrimp they talk about are tiny they also consume plankton they have no stomach and keep eating as they pass food straight through - they eat continuously if food is available.

98% of the time they are successful in grabbing a shrimp, highest hit rate of any predator marine or terrestrial.

A place in Tasmania breeds them for the aquarium trade.

Prawns are extremely intelligent.

I’ve seen them even play dead to try and escape after being netted.

That’s a impressive kill ratio!

Now do Swans.

“The Birds of Love”

I’ve been watching a set of swans nest and try to raise signets for like at least 12 years that i can recollect.

In the first few years they had no result - sometimes it was the water levels not being right so abandoned the nest and disappeared -  sometimes they just seemed to get no result after sitting on the Nest for weeks and weeks.

But they still come back - I’ve seen then raise 6 signets only to leave with none.

Two years ago - they had six signets again and left with three 😊

This year, I only saw them once and then they disappeared again due to low water levels. They didn’t even try to start a next. 😞

Im hoping they found somewhere else but we’ve just not had enough rain 🌧️

I worked in such myself for just a year. So much 'freebies' of excess and unsold. Give me Latchet(Gurnard) over Flathead anyday. Oh, and the middle soft of cuttlefish that isn't sold, is the best tasting part.
I do suggest trying, in small portion only, nice buttery and delicious Oilfish.
