That might be in America but downunder, Hyundai cars perform very well.  I've driven one now for 10 years and never had a problem with it.  Its an i30 Hatchback Diesel and it has performed perfectly in all that decade.  Tsk, tsk, tsk... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I blew up my trusty old spare run around last year ( a 15 year old toyota Echo with 300,000 klm on the clock)

Apparently 1500 cc engines dont like towing trailers up steep hills on 40 deg c days with the aircon running flat out
Who would have thunk?

I doubt that you did that. It is still burned into my memory the footage of that person towing their caravan uphill using a small car.

And you drive 20,000km per year? I have not done that sort of mileage since my days delivering.

It was actually doing quite well.
I was working 75 klm from home up the freeway.
So I was doing 150 klm a day 5 days a week.
It was also used regularly for weekend running around.
Everything worked, even the air con.
But at 300000 I m it was getting tired.

It was using about 1 litre of oil a fortnight and verged on overheating if I sat idling for too long.
It obviously had issues.
But as long as I cruised at 110 and didn't stop, it was OK.

Towing a trailer with furniture up Ourimbah hill, on a 40 deg c day, with the aircon going was its breaking point.
But it ran until it stalled, let it cool down and would drive about 10 klm before it shut down again, so three stops to get home.
Obviously head gasket.
But too much trouble to repair,it's a massive job to get at tge head on those things.

So I retired it, got $600.00 from the wreckers for parts and bought a $4000 kia cerato.
This thing is amazing.

I've been using it for everything, if I didn't need the ISUZU for towing, I'd probably sell up and buy a new Kia.

It reminds me a bit of the old nine inch nails logo.
