Disproportionate Impact on Vulnerable Groups,
Women and girls, particularly those escaping domestic and family violence (DFV), are among the hardest hit by this housing crunch.
In 2023–24, specialist homelessness services (SHS) assisted 109,500 people affected by DFV, mostly women and children, but 34,360 missed out on emergency accommodation, and 76,688 couldn’t secure long-term housing.
The 14% rise in women and girls accessing SHS since May 2022 reflects how housing scarcity, worsened by migration-driven demand, leaves them stuck in unsafe situations, couch surfing, or sleeping rough.
Also have a look at the latest statistics on divorce rates that have dropped.
Women are seeing this rise in homelessness among women and girls and prefer being in an unhappy, unhealthy relationship and even violent rather than living on the street.
WTF sort of society are we living in?
Why are women who are comfortable with a roof over their heads staying silent?
Why are men who beat their chest pretending to be protector of women staying silent?
A lot of women are now using the DV angle to get priority on housing waiting lists. Even though they have never experienced DV, it's a surefire way to jump the queue. They don't have to prove they've suffered from DV, just a fear of an ex boyfriend or partner will get them on that priority list.
