Dutton wants referendum on removing crims
Mar 18th, 2025 at 9:34am

‘Betray your country, lose your citizenship’: Dutton wants talks on dual citizen crims

The Opposition Leader has called for a ‘discussion … about whether the constitution is restrictive’ on the government’s ability to kick out ‘people in our country who hate our country, who want to cause terrorist attacks’.

A referendum on removing dual citizenship ratbags?

Hell yeah!   Cool

I'd vote Yes to that.

Dutton want's extra powers to deport people which are not needed....Any duel citizen convicted of a crime who is sentenced to more than three years can already be deported under current laws....A conviction of terrorism would certainly qualify for deportation....Dutton is dog whistling to get the power to deport anyone who criticises his bullshit....Half a billion dollars for laws that are not needed ya dickhead!!!

A 2022 High Court ruling found it unconstitutional for ministers to strip citizenship from dual nationals who've committed certain crimes, with a special vote required to change that.

Peter Dutton is still too 'softcock'.

Peter Dutton should be OPENLY demanding that THE AUSTRALIA PARLIAMENT seek to achieve that.

NOT merely, 'Oh maybe, we should have a discussion about....'

Set in motion political actions........TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

ALL AUSTRALIAN POLITICIANS NEED TO STOP BEING    'SOFTCOCKS',    ON CONSEQUENCES FOR THOSE WHO COMMIT VIOLENT CRIMES IN AUSTRALIA.

He isn't brave enough      to speak very plainly      to Australian voters, about the most difficult political issues in Australia, in 2025.

The Australian voters who could or would vote for Peter Dutton,
don't want another 'every-man' political party leader.

And that, imo, is what Peter Dutton is offering to Australian voters.

If it meant that those two nurses who spewed antisemitic hate for example - even though they may not be convicted of terrorism - were sent packing ... then I'd vote for that. I reckon millions of others would vote Yes too.  Cool

You would give politicians the right to deport people who have commited no crime....Any act of terrorism already qualifies for deportation of duel nationals....You would vote yes to a referendum which is not required and waste half a billion dollars for nothing....What a dickhead!!!

Quote:
When is a person deported for committing a crime?
A non-citizen who is a permanent resident in Australia for less than 10 years may be deported if they are convicted in Australia of any offence for which they are sentenced to imprisonment for one year or longer (s 201 Migration Act).

Such a non-citizen is similarly liable to deportation if they are sentenced to two or more terms of imprisonment in which the total of the terms is 12 months or more. Under section 201, a person cannot be deported after being lawfully resident in Australia for more than 10 years, except in very exceptional circumstances.

However, this section is rarely used due to the broad and more draconian powers available to the Minister and Department of Home Affairs. Under s501 of the Migration Act, a non-citizen’s visa can be cancelled no matter how long they have lived in Australia, making the person an unlawful non-citizen who is then subject to removal.

Committing a crime that might not reach the level of terrorism, yes.

Good riddance to that type of immigrant.

What of those not convicted of crimes with three year sentences but commit crimes of hate?  Smiley

e.g.

Can you go to jail in Australia for hate speech?
In Western Australia, the Criminal Code was amended in 1989 to criminalise the possession, publication and display of written or pictorial material that is threatening or abusive with the intention of inciting racial hatred or of harassing a racial group. Penalties range between six months and two years imprisonment.

Dang! Not enough to to be sent packing.  Wink
