These state laws and policies are at odds with President Trump's executive order mandating that athletes compete according to their sex assigned at birth.

Governor Mills has stated that the state will adhere to its own laws and consider legal action if federal funding is threatened.

Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey has also emphasised that any attempt by the President to cut federal funding, unless transgender athletes are restricted from playing sports, would be illegal and in direct violation of federal court orders.

As for the Executive Order, A US governor does not have to follow a presidential executive order if it exceeds federal authority or conflicts with state powers. Executive orders apply primarily to federal agencies and employees, not state governments. However, if an executive order is grounded in valid federal law or the US Constitution, it can preempt state authority under the Supremacy Clause. In such cases, a governor may be legally required to comply, though states can challenge the order in court.

Trump has not passed any Federal Law that would override the state powers of Maine in this case, until he does so, the governor is right to follow the law of her state.

If you don't like that, you can slur all you like, but you're anger should be directed towards Trump for wanting to rule rather than govern, being lazy rather than legislating.
