if computers have IP or secret information on them they
are never connected to the internet.
They will be connected to a server for backups and connecting to other people
on the same project but that's all.
I don't see how any system on the internet can have 100% security in the long term.

The fraud engaged in by the big four auditing companies was certainly exposed for all to see; they used government contracts to feather their own nests, rather than benefit the public.

And underpayment of wages by companies, etc, fraud.

Story now hidden on the internet but I remember it.

Back when Windows 95 came out in 1995 -
the NSA visited Bill Gates with a court order on the grounds of National Security-
to demand that he hand over the source code of Win95.
It also prevented him or any of his Microsoft employees from telling anyone else about it.
Bill Gates was very upset as it was his intellectual property and
the ultimate security of all Win95 users depended upon keeping the source code secret.
He either had to comply or he would be sent to jail
and they would take it anyway - he complied.
That same order is still valid to this day so
the NSA has all the source code since 1995 - that's right -
WinXP, Win7, Win10, Win11 - all of it.

We can only speculate as to how the NSA would use that information but
it's possible that if they wanted to hack any computer they could send someone a fake
Windows update that would open their computer ports to hacking by the NSA.

They could also look for weakness in the source code to be able to exploit it.
Therefore if you have a windows computer the NSA can read all of your files remotely
without you ever knowing about - no matter how good your firewall is.
They may have passed that information to actors in other countries -
we'll never know.

That is why computers with secret information are never connected to the internet
and why especially Windows computers are not secure.

That's right. Given individuals commit fraud and crime with national security implications, governments need to take the necessary steps to manage/reduce fraud and crime.

How they do it is another question.

I think we all have aright to be paranoid given the appalling record of
cyber hacking – even from Govt. places:

Australia has been roiled by several major hacks in recent years,
including on Optus, Medibank, Latitude Financial, law firm HWL Ebsworth
and stevedore DP World and now MediSecure.

Optus alone had over 10 million records stolen.
10 million customers hacked including me.
As we speak – we all have our names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses &
driver's license numbers out there in the hands of hackers,
all over the world just waiting to assume our identity and rip us off.
