Mein Kampf

Hitler's rambling dissertation on what was wrong with the world comes off copyright this year.
The copyright is currently held by some Bavarian Museum I think. The German govt has exercised all its influence to restrict publication since the end of the war but that will now be impossible. (Good job it doesn't mention the prophet)

The book made Hitler a very rich man because he had the govt purchase millions of copies to be distributed to students & so on. It was also published in several languages.

And no, I haven't in fact read it.

I read it when I was young. Maybe about 12 or 13. Seemed like a bit of long winded twaddle at the time.

As far as I know, the only government issued ones were the special presentation and wedding editions. None were given to schools or students etc. There was a soldiers edition, but the family had to buy it and send it to the soldier - it wasn't issued.

I doubt the government bought that many themselves.

It's a fact that Hitler made a fortune out of the royalties and most of that came from government orders after he came to power.

I'd be very interested to see if this quote floating around is actually legitimate:
Quote:
The best way to take control over a people and control them utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible reductions. In this way, the people will not see those rights and freedoms being removed until past the point at which these changes cannot be reversed. - Adolf Hitler

You're right. I was wrong. I just had a quick read. Seems they purchased 6 million out of a total of 8-10mil sold. That's a hell of a lot of Wedding editions - although that would also count the soldier editions that they then went and on-sold as well as the library, official ones.

I've owned a few of the presentation editions. These days I wish I'd hung onto a couple of them.

It doesn't sound like Hitler to me, it's too coherent. And it's certainly not the way he went about it. It was more like wham bam thankyou ma'm.

Regardless of whether there is copyright on Hitler's book or not, it is banned as extremist in the Russian Federation.

In the same way, books by Mussolini, Goebbels, Rosenberg and Himmler are banned.

Mein Trumpf is verbal and can't be stopped.
