Why do these cars have KN for a badge?

The Kiwis say KEA.
So don't worry. :)

I sometimes see a car on the road, driving by, and I think… I like that car…. What is it? And the creative licence with logos is hard to make out without really having a close look.
Recently I saw why the logo for Hyundai was as it is… to depict 2 men shaking hands on a deal.

The letter H leans right, which suggests movement into the future, but that's just the beginning: The logo loosely resembles two silhouettes shaking hands. This is a nod to Hyundai's commitment to customer service and teamwork. It also represents a salesperson reaching a deal with a customer.

Thanks Sophia.

I've driven a Hyundai Getz for the past 14 years and I've never noticed that.

No, just assuming that it is a styled N.

They really had to do something as KIA commonly  means “killed in action’’.

It still spells Kia to me.

Kia Tasman looks OK - the 2.5 ltr turbo diesel would be my pick of motor.

I blew up my trusty old spare run around last year ( a 15 year old toyota Echo with 300,000 klm on the clock)

Apparently 1500 cc engines dont like towing trailers up steep hills on 40 deg c days with the aircon running flat out
Who would have thunk?

But I still needed a run around so as to keep the $X$ and the missus new car away from  the idiot drivers of the Central Coast all the time.

So I founded a little KIA Cerato for a stupid price, less that $3000.00.
2008 model with less than 150,000 klm on the dial.

I was dubious at first myself, why so cheap.
I fixed the loose fan belt, replaced the washer motor, Changed the plugs, changed the fuel filyter (it was filthy) and replaced a couple of defective switches on the dash and door.

All up I spent about $200.00 on getting it working pwerfectly again.
I have since done over 65,000 on it and it runs like a dream.
Everything works perfectly (except the door locks which have a mind of their own).

I was going to get rid of it when I retired, but driving a manual has been so much fun, Im thinking of keeping it.
Its no Rolls royce, hasnt got the power of a Farrari, but it goes well, gets 7 l/100 klm and handles far better than i would have expected.

I would even consider buying a new KIA when we are past the caravan travelling days and I get rid of the 4x4.

So many people who only steer cars and have no idea of how to drive one

Not to mention the fact that it has one of the best anti theft features in a car these days - a manual transmission.

Most people these days (and not just potential car thieves) don't even know how to drive one.

Was at a local chamber of commerce meeting a few weeks ago with the police area commander, when the subject came up of the increase in car thefts, she said the best way to prevent car theft was to buy a manual

I watched a you tube video the other day.
A little monkey turd tried to steal a car, but couldn't get it to go.
The gear crunching was terrible to hear, but he never got it going.
Perhaps it is a bit of a deterrent.

If I ever win Lotto I’ll buy a new English Alvis.4.3 litre.

I doubt that you did that. It is still burned into my memory the footage of that person towing their caravan uphill using a small car.

And you drive 20,000km per year? I have not done that sort of mileage since my days delivering.

I once, many moons ago, worked for a well-known Journalist doing some research for him.  He was doing the same Masters course as I was and he needed some help on the book he was preparing.  He regularly drove a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow.  When I worked for him his son had gone overseas and left his Mini-Moke parked behind the Rolls.  He took it out to buy us some lunch from a local Chinese Take-away.  He came back, wildly enthusiastic about how pleasurable it was to drive compared to his Rolls.  He not only paid me, which was welcome, he gave me a credit in the book he was preparing and he provided me with lunch. ;D

(I use the gender neutral terms because we really don't know who's what online - just another empty spot in cyberspace filled by anything that seems to fit for advantage - methra/messra is about as vague on realities as Albo and Co, so is a clear and present danger to the sanity and overall social and economic well-being of Australia... a true enema of the people) ....

That might be in America but downunder, Hyundai cars perform very well.  I've driven one now for 10 years and never had a problem with it.  Its an i30 Hatchback Diesel and it has performed perfectly in all that decade.  Tsk, tsk, tsk... ::) ::)

It was actually doing quite well.
I was working 75 klm from home up the freeway.
So I was doing 150 klm a day 5 days a week.
It was also used regularly for weekend running around.
Everything worked, even the air con.
But at 300000 I m it was getting tired.

It was using about 1 litre of oil a fortnight and verged on overheating if I sat idling for too long.
It obviously had issues.
But as long as I cruised at 110 and didn't stop, it was OK.

Towing a trailer with furniture up Ourimbah hill, on a 40 deg c day, with the aircon going was its breaking point.
But it ran until it stalled, let it cool down and would drive about 10 klm before it shut down again, so three stops to get home.
Obviously head gasket.
But too much trouble to repair,it's a massive job to get at tge head on those things.

So I retired it, got $600.00 from the wreckers for parts and bought a $4000 kia cerato.
This thing is amazing.

I've been using it for everything, if I didn't need the ISUZU for towing, I'd probably sell up and buy a new Kia.
