Title: Mass Shooting in Leafy Perth Suburb
Post by greggerypeccary on May 25th, 2024 at 11:20am

Three people dead after shooting in Floreat, in Perth's west

In short: Police found two people dead at a home in Floreat after responding to reports of a firearm being discharged on Friday.

A third person who was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital has now died.

What's next? Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public and officers will remain at the scene.

It's the water over there - drives politicians to write off huge expanses of the state to some group who claim ancestral strolling about on it.... and then drives people to insanity.....

I'd move if I were you .... and a few others here who clearly are suffering from the water....

Three people are dead from a shooting.

That's a mass shooting/killing.

"In the United States, the country with the most mass shootings, the Investigative Assistance for Violent Crimes Act of 2012 defines mass killings as three or more killings in a single incident."

Is it any different in Australia?

It has to be 5 or more killed for mass shooting in Australia according to Simon Chapman from Sydney Uni.

Monash University shooting isn't considered a mass shooting when people claim our laws stopped mass shootings.

Quote:
Results
From 1979 until and including 1996 (ie, the 18 years prior to enactment of the ban on rapid-fire firearms), there were 13 mass fatal shootings (involving ≥5 victims) in Australia.

Conclusions and Relevance
Following enactment of gun law reforms in Australia in 1996, there were no mass firearm killings through May 2016. There was a more rapid decline in firearm deaths between 1997 and 2013 compared with before 1997 but also a decline in total nonfirearm suicide and homicide deaths of a greater magnitude. Because of this, it is not possible to determine whether the change in firearm deaths can be attributed to the gun law reforms.

Two were killed. That is not a 'mass shooting' even if a terrible calamity,  turd. The murderer is not counted in the 'mass', unflushable,  as he is not a victim.

The WA Police dropped the ball on this one.

Quote:
The daughter of a man who brutally murdered his estranged wife’s best friend and daughter has lashed out with a brutal takedown of the police

The daughter of a double murderer says she repeatedly warned police of the danger he posed before he gunned down a mother and her teenage daughter in a hunt for his estranged wife.

Ariel, the killer’s daughter, revealed that she and her mother had fled their home in fear for their lives and had contacted police multiple times about the “imminent threat” posed by her father.

“My mother and I made it clear that our lives were at risk – we were repeatedly ignored, repeatedly failed. These failures have cost the lives of two incredible women,” Ms Bombara, 27, said in a statement.

“I did everything I could to protect my mother — when my father couldn’t find us he murdered her best friend and her best friend’s daughter.”

Ariel says her numerous pleas for help to the police had fallen on deaf ears, explaining that she had specifically sent out a warning about an unaccounted-for Glock handgun, which ultimately became one of the murder weapons.

Her efforts to secure a temporary protective order were also dismissed, leaving her feeling helpless and desperate as she scrambled to ensure her mother’s safety.

“Between March 30th and April 2nd, I spoke with police on three separate occasions to raise the alarm about my father. On each occasion I alerted officers to my father’s guns, and told them my mother and I felt there was a real and imminent threat to our lives.

“I specifically mentioned that there was a Glock handgun which was unaccounted for.

“My understanding is this ultimately would be one of the weapons my father used take the lives of two innocent women.

“On April 2nd, my mother and I were given a police escort to our home to collect some belongings. This was the third occasion we warned police about my father’s guns.

“One officer said, ‘oh don’t worry, we know all about the guns’, and when he called for backup, he warned his fellow officers to wear bullet proof vests.

“We were ignored by five different male officers across three occasions of reporting. By that point we felt completely helpless and I had to focus on getting mum to safety.

Police Minister Paul Papalia revealed that Bombara was legally licensed to own 13 firearms
The aftermath of this tragedy has prompted calls for stricter gun laws, with Mr Papalia now considering amendments to legislation currently before parliament.

“I think we’ll be acting earlier to remove firearms from premises where there’s potential for harm to be done,” Mr Papalia stated.

https://www.news.com.au/national/western-australia/ignored-daughter-of-man-who-murdered-his-wifes-best-friend-and-child-breaks-silence/news-story/df4af0c4d53b359492e959d7ada3027f

The police and the police minister have failed here.
Guns are automatically confiscated with AVO

WA also has this which allowed them to take this persons guns.

Quote:
section 24(2) of the Act

(2) A member of the Police Force may seize and take possession of any firearm or ammunition that is in the possession of a person, whether or not the person is licensed or otherwise authorised to possess it if, in the opinion of the member of the Police Force —

(a) possession of it by that person may result in harm being suffered by any person; or

(b) that person is not at the time a fit and proper person to be in possession of it.

(2a) For the purpose of exercising the powers given by subsection (2), a member of the Police Force may enter and search any premises on which, in the opinion of the member of the Police Force, there are reasonable grounds to suspect that any firearm or ammunition may be found in the possession of a person in the circumstances described in that subsection.

The Police had the power to take his guns away they failed to do it.

They could have been murdered a month after another mass shooting a month after another mass shooting another month after another mass shooting.... if we did not have gun controls in place.

It is sad that this has happened. But we are only 6 weeks after the last mass killing. It is not like we don't expect any more people will ever be murdered.

From Ariel Bombara's statement -

"The gun reforms being discussed currently are an important step, but it is my unwavering belief that even without his guns my father would have committed a horrific act of violence which likely would have claimed lives."

Why on Gods Green Earth did you have to bring Trump into this discussion?

You really do have an enormous problem with this.

Especially in light of the fact that you said you would leave this forum forever if he won the election that saw him installed as the POTUS.

You're still here reneging on your word & obsessing with Trump.

Are you seeing a shrink for this obsession ...

do you need to reconnect with some music interests to help relieve it?

Well - it's only Perth anyway - anything can happen over there - what kind of Usual Suspect were they?

White, Australian-born male.

He owned a $4.5 million mansion on the waterfront, and had 13 other guns in his house.

Still lots of crooks who are millionaires.

So were the guns registered?

Edit: I've read a later transcript ... all registered.

Saw a TV report where the daughter spoke.... so it seems the Police have fallen down in their failure to confiscate the weapons when an AVO had been applied to the perpetrator.

Reneging?

No.

I'm leaving.

Anyway, why did this guy have so many guns - was his prick actually smaller than Trump-the-rapist's?

Hard to believe, but there seems to be no other explanation: he was compensating.

Yes ... reneging.

8 years of reneging - how time flies when you're telling lies.

Who takes 8 years to leave?

What's that you say? You didn't say when you would leave just that you would leave at some future date? Is that it?

So your original statement at the time was dishonest ..... yes?

We'll all be leaving at some stage just that most don't make bets like that on political outcomes that they don't want to see come to fruition, then back out with a bs excuse like you've provided.

Even the landslide result of the referendum ;)

Re: the shooting if you knew what the blokes interests were you might know why he had 13 weapons.....

it's not unusual for a collector .... some weapons may have been non operative. If he hunts or sport shoots would see him having more than a couple for each interest.

Mate of mine competition range shoots and he has 4 rifles.

Gloater?  Hardly.

I'm not gloating about this, am I?

The District Attorney’s Office put in a thorough case that proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Donald Trump engaged in a conspiracy with David Pecker and Michael Cohen and others to promote his election unlawfully with hush money payments and then took steps to cover that up with false records.

The case was deeply corroborated, with testimony not built around one person but with texts and emails and phone records. The prosecution case was methodical, and the jury clearly paid attention.

The defendant did everything he could to undermine the administration of justice, engaged in criminal contempt on ten occasions, and yet the system still gave him a trial that was fundamentally fair.

That is a big win for the prosecution, which brought the case in the name of the People of the State of New York.

Frank gets an erection when the numbers get into the tens of thousands and are unarmed, defenseless women and children.

So the women sang as they danced, and said:

Concentrate on the centre.... allow your mind to relax .... allow the flow of the universe to caress your inner being .... feel your problems falling into the black hole ......  imagine you are entering a new space .... when you open your mind all thoughts of Virulent Trumpophobia will have vanished....
