Title: When a book takes over your life
Post by bogarde73 on Mar 7th, 2014 at 12:32pm
Rebecca Mead is a writer for the New Yorker, who first read George Eliot's Middlemarch as a yearning, ambitious young woman living in a small town in England. Then, the novel spoke to her of the possibilities of living an intellectual life, of escape, of ideas and seriousness. Mead then read the novel again and again, as her own life changed. She read different things into and from the book. Humour. Archness. Relationships. Even how to be a step parent. And in writing a combined personal reflection of the book, and a critical biography of Eliot and how she was received, Mead has written a book that takes the act of reading seriously.

I read "Red Dragon", "Silence of the Lambs" and "Hannibal" in fairly quick time. I could probably re-read the books soon. But, I want to finish my Game of Thrones series.
