Title: new profile pages Post by freediver on Aug 5th, 2007 at 2:21pm
split from another thread above the old members paages: http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1166430716
I am pleased to announce a new feature on OzPolitic which I hope will make this a more complete site. I have added editable fields to people's profile pages, so you can now set up a home page automatically like on most networking sites, without having to go through me and without having to use html (ie you just fill out the form). Some example home pages: http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?action=viewprofile;username=freediver http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?action=viewprofile;username=oceansblue http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?action=viewprofile;username=midnightcowboy I have only added two new fields, but I can add more. We will just have to be careful about adding new ones because if we chop and change too much people might lose their information. These are the types of fields I can add: Textbox (single line) Text area (multiple lines) - the current one is limited to 20000 characters. I can also limit the width and height I think. Dropdown list (single selection) Radiobuttons Checkbox Date URL Spacer Image Not sure what to do with the old 'members' area. If people aren't interested in maintaining it I should probably remove it from the header, but I can always leave a link up to it somewhere else. |

Here is the code for my profile page. I updated it so it is just like my 'members' page. Code (]I am a keen spearfishermen from Australia. I actively promote marine parks (no take zones) as fisheries management tools. I am trying to encourage hunters, fishermen and conservationists to talk to each other. I enjoy debating politics online. [img]http://www.ozpolitic.com/fish/photos/boat-sunset-thumbnail.jpg Causes: ending perverse subsidies, sustainable harvest of wild stocks, recreational fishing, punitive taxes on fossil fuels When a man lies, he murders some part of the world These are the pale deaths, which men miscall their lives All this I cannot bear to witness any longer Cannot the kingdom of salvation take me home -Cliff Burton A source of inspiration for me: Collapse, by Jared Diamond. It helped me understand the complex issue of sustainability. My political philosophy: http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz-score/draw.php?p=8&e=4 Please update your own profile page. BUMP.
Has anyone else had a go of this yet? Could someone please try it out and let me know how it goes? Thanks in advance. Go to your profile, hit the 'modify' button, then put some text in the 'About Me' box or a URL to an image in the 'Photo' box. |

Bugger....but I would not rely on me. You need a far more savvy IT person than me to do a test. |

You might have more luck putting text in the 'about me' box.
I checked your photo. The http:// bit appears twice in the URL, so remove that. Also, there is no file specified. You only included up to the /avatars/ folder. Maybe you didn't copy the entire URL. |
