Bloody hot summer coming. . .

. . .and with it, bushfires.

There is already a bushfire burning on the east coast of Tasmania, a place that seems to get more than its share of bushfires.

Those in the capital cities are probably OK, those outside the main cities need to be prepared.

I am ordering two sprinklers that throw water a fair distance and two rooftop sprinklers. Once I have the 20KL tank in place and full I will buy a pump and upgrade the sprinklers. I plan on a second rainwater tank to supply the house—HATE the high calcium water here—but it can back up the main tank. Tanks can also shield walls against embers to some extent.

But will have sprinklers and tennis balls to plug downpipes so the gutters can be filled with water.

Need to buy an extension ladder so I can place rooftop sprinklers and remove them for maintenance. This thought does not fill me with joy. At 78 years of age and with one ear basically out of action (“severe to profound hearing loss”) my balance is pretty crap and being on a roof or tall ladder terrifies me. Well, not terrify but make me severely to profoundly unhappy. But—up to me to protect my home!

Anybody else taking bushfire protection measures?

I got the idea for the long-distance sprinklers and blocking the gutters from Jaye. I think she is a cretin and pointless troll but those ideas were good.
