He made a foolish decision.

How much consultation was there with kids under 16?

Anthony Albanese Would ‘Ban Social Media’ if Made Dictator

Kurt Mahlburg
16 August 2023

Freedom
4.2 MINS

The PM was speaking hypothetically, but was his idea to ‘ban social media’ a Freudian slip?

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese would “ban social media” if he was made dictator for five years, he confessed in a radio interview this week.

The PM made the candid admission on Monday, in a long-form conversation with Neil Mitchell on Radio 3AW Melbourne.

The hour-long Neil Mitchell Asks Why dialogue opened with the host asking a humorous ice breaker: “You are dictator for five years. What do you do? What’s your first act?”

After laughing, Mr Albanese clarified, “I’m not a supporter of dictatorship.” He then reflected for a moment and replied, “I think the big frustrating thing, if I could do something, maybe ban social media, would be handy.”

Best thing ever - stops the little pricks from making total and absolute fools of themselves.

Ummm - excuse me - these kids are minors - their parents get to make the decisions even if it's about cutting of their balls and tits and stuff... or even worse - self-identifying as Aboriginal....   Cool

Front page of today's The West Australian.

I don't know about anyone else but I plan to do all my Christmas shopping by Wednesday.

The idea of going shopping with goodness knows how many deranged teenagers suffering from social media/phone in face withdrawal symptoms wandering around the shopping centres looking for 'something to amuse themselves' scares me a bit.

It is also another sad indictment of today's society when things have gotten as bad as this.

I was having a look at this on YouTube a couple of weeks back:

Electrification – The Dawning of a New Era

Promotional video for the electrification of the Westrail suburban rail network, 1991.

This is what I said in the comments:

Great video. Such nostalgia.

And, the most amazing part is (to me, anyway) - not a face glued to a mobile phone to be seen anywhere. Unlike today.

How on earth did people manage to survive back then?

Yes, how did they manage to survive?

I use the trains quite a bit these days and all I see on the trains and at the stations (especially Perth station where there's lots of people most of the time) is hundreds of people with their faces glued to their phones.

I saw one girl on the train coming back from Mosman Park a couple of weeks back where she was so engrossed in her phone that she pushed the door opening button on the wrong side of the train for her station (you can press the button before the train stops at the station) and she didn't notice the train had stopped and the doors hadn't opened.

The train had started moving again before she realised what had happened (I think one of the other passengers told her actually).  Grin

Everyone read newspapers or magazines or books.

Ffs.

Really you believe back in the day when you got on a train everyone shook your hand and  wanted to know your name and was desperate to know your life story then invited you to a cherry old sing a long?

I don’t care about Australians who are living in poverty or their businesses have gone bankrupt or those working hard and still struggling to survive.

BAN THE BURKA!

That’s fair more important!

Grin Grin Grin

But, I'm pretty sure if newspapers, magazines and books were banned on public transport for some reason back then we wouldn't have seen the tantrums and meltdowns that we're about to see with the under 16's social media ban starting on Wednesday.

I have my popcorn ready.

And, as I and many others have said - this really has nothing to do with "protecting the children". This is more about the government gradually working its way towards pushing their "Digital ID" crap on everyone and taking control of what is being said about the government online.

And being able to identify who is saying bad things about them online.

They already have a large amount of 'control' regarding what is being said about them in the mainstream print and TV media. Now they want total control of everything.

Welcome to 1984. A few decades later than expected but we finally made it.

I wonder if the government is aware the amount of deaths for under 16 year olds is greatly outweighed by those dying in E-bikes accidents far , far more than those that can be proven to have been caused by social media.

So why are our politicians “ happy “ to allow under 16s to die on E bikes?

I think you've seen more tantrums on here by FD then you're likely to see from most kids

under-16s in Australia have already found ways around the government's new social media ban, primarily by using parents' details, moving to non-banned apps (like Discord, Lemon8, Yope), or using VPNs, with parents helping and tech companies warning of the challenges, making it a "game of whack-a-mole" for regulators.

so the ultimate decider is the parent .... great, that'll make FD happy Cheesy Cheesy

I was wondering the same thing myself. Never heard of it until now. But, I just found this:

https://www.babbel.com/en/magazine/what-does-fml-mean “F My Life.”

I was thinking FMD (F Me Dead) might have been more appropriate but the paper would probably have been in a bit of trouble if they'd used that.  Grin

Meanwhile, one day to go until the "ban" and this is in today's The West Australian.

The small piece is on the front page and there's a 2 page 'spread' on pages 8 and 9.

What a surprise.

I wonder what Julie and Anika's excuses will be when it becomes obvious - probably in 6 months time or less - that this "ban" is a complete failure?

Or will they just go completely silent and pretend the whole thing has gone away or never happened? Like the pollies did/are still doing with Covid?

But, having said all that I also have to say it is quite entertaining to watch our teenagers make complete and utter fools out of the politicians. Even though it really isn't difficult to do that these days.
