For those of us who have spoken to Israelis and/or diaspora Jews on the matter of Israel's existence, would understand that they do not speak of Israel's right to exist, nor any country's, as, similarly, neither does any nation-state nor the UN.

A right is a bestowment from a higher authority... In the case of Israel, that higher authority is a religious one... a deity.

All Israelis and diaspora Jews understand this and, while they may humour the notion where it has popular currency among the 'goy', few believe it.

What they do say is that Jewish cultural connection to the ancient borders was not severed in the first two centuries of the first millennium and, as such, the land was never ceded to 'strangers'.

They also understand that retaining that land, now that they have most of it, is a matter of military strength - the only determinant of a state's continued existence.

And, finally, the West Bank, which the Israeli political right regularly refers to as Judea-Samaria, is also claimed by Israel... and their claim on it will never, nor can ever, be extinguished... given that an Israel without its heartlands of Judea and Samaria is inconsistent with Jewish claims of ownership through uninterrupted cultural and religious connection.
