The Carter Doctrine:
Jul 2nd, 2025 at 9:35am

Ever wondered why there are so many American military bases in the Persian Gulf?
It based on the The Carter Doctrine.
It also means that Iran's recent threat to close the Straits of Hormuz was nonsense -
the Yanks would never let it happen.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carter_Doctrine

The Carter Doctrine was a policy proclaimed by United States president Jimmy Carter in his State of the Union Address on January 23, 1980, which stated that the U.S. would use military force, if necessary, to defend its national interests in the Persian Gulf. It was a response to the Soviet Union's intervention in Afghanistan in 1979, and it was intended to deter the Soviet Union, the country's Cold War adversary, from seeking hegemony in the Persian Gulf region.

The following key sentence, written by Zbigniew Brzezinski, Carter's National Security Adviser, concludes the section:

Let our position be absolutely clear: An attempt by any outside force to gain control of the Persian Gulf region will be regarded as an assault on the vital interests of the United States of America, and such an assault will be repelled by any means necessary, including military force.

I heard that Iran wasn't going to close it. They were just going to carefully target ships that were of benefit to their enemies Wink

But they wouldn't have got away with it.

The question is -

why can't Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf states secure the Straits of Hormuz?

Because they're client states, you silly old thing. They exist to serve Uncle. They were created for this very purpose.

Uncle provides the security, the Sheikhs provide the oil. Haven't you paid any attention to the past 75 years of geopolitics?

Sure, MBS is flexing his muscles and acting all butch. Oxford-educated Saudis love that sort of thing, it's a real giggle.

But until MBS turns Saudi Arabia green, the sheiks are in power to supply the rest of us oil.

All those Paki, Bangladeshi and Philippino guest workers work for Uncle and us.

We are, after all, the clients. If they don't drill and ship, our entire petrol supply dries up - in 25 days.

Aussie Aussie Aussie, no?

Why did all the media keep saying that Iran would close the Straits of Hormuz?

That was a lie - the Yanks are there - bases everywhere -
with boots on the ground, planes in the air and ships at sea
to stop that from ever happening.

Sorry? Are you accusing Iran's leaders of playing games to bump up the price of oil and global trade?

Strange. Where have we heard that before?

Anyone?

No - I am accusing  every news media outlet in the world
of hyping up a story about closing the Strait of Hormuz.
There is no way that could happen - Jimmy Carter said and
the Gulf war of 1991 also proved it.

I suppose big bullshit stories sell newspapers and
get people to click on stories on the web?

Besides Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness novel.
Did you know Apocalypse Now was also based on an Australian (Lt-Col) Peterson who disobeyed CIA exploitation of a Vietnamese people's, on their behalf. They made Kurtz (Brando) on him. Let alone a warning to any Australians who disobey America, that they will be assassinated.
