Only problem is, they hadn't been deployed yet. The whole thing was for show.
So Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles without the request or consent of California Governor Gavin Newsom. This move was justified by Trump through a provision in Title 10 of the US Code, allowing for intervention during rebellions.
California Representative Nanette Barragan criticised the deployment as unnecessary and escalatory, noting that local authorities had not requested assistance. She also pointed out that Trump prematurely claimed the National Guard had restored order, even though the troops had not yet been deployed at the time of his statement.
