The current firearm laws do not ban any firearms and you cannot, in a month of Sundays shew where they do. Quote:In 1994, a federal legal initiative was introduced to ban semi-automatic weapons and large capacity magazines. For a period of ten years, the Federal Assault Weapons Ban prohibited 18 semi-automatic firearm models considered by firearm control advocates as dangerous and preferred by violent criminals (Koper et a SourceTsk, tsk, tsk... Wrong as usual, assault rifles/weapons were not banned. You are the one who claimed assault rifles/weapons were banned until I showed that you are a dickhead with no idea....You really are an idiot!!! Sir Eoin O Fada wrote on Dec 22 nd, 2024 at 8:46am: Assault rifles are banned. Thank you for pointing that out, Phil. Obviously I left out the negative qualifier. So, so that we get things right, I’ll say it again, assault rifles have never been banned in the US or in Australia and you cannot shew where they have been banned. I assume you're playing semantics here, as your statement is demonstrably false. So, care to explain yourself? With pleasure. The term ‘’Assault Rifle’’ was picked as an emotive description by the anti gun movement and the MSM for political purposes completely disregarding the actual definition. The definition is that an assault rifle is a light weapon that utilises an intermediate power round and has a detachable magazine [no specific capacity] and that has FULL AUTOMATIC and/or BURST fire capability, thus the SEMIAUTOMATIC rifles which are commonly referred to as Assault rifles are not Assault rifles at all and to describe them as such is erroneous, misleading and shews an ignorance of weapon types, unknowingly or intentionally. Assault rifles have never been banned [another emotive word] but they are restricted, however both here and in the US, they and other fully automatic weapons are available, on licence, to approved persons. Rapid fire rifles and shotguns are available in Australia to anyone who holds an A or B license and are often capable of higher rates of fire than some semiautomatic firearms, a fact that seems to have been unknown to our lawmakers. Example: I and hundreds of others regularly fire 6 shots in under 5 seconds in Rapid Fire pistol events using manually operated revolving pistols. . Hmm, okay. But you are just arguing semantics. The Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act states: AN ACT
To make unlawful the transfer or possession of assault weapons.
And: SEC. 4. BAN OF LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION FEEDING DEVICES.So, no matter what interpretation of the Act you, or indeed I, might have it was quite clearly a ban on assault rifles/weapons. As I said ‘’ban’’ was used as an emotive description for political purposes and had no factual meaning as actual Assault Rifles were legally available. Any semantics were being used by the law makers, the MSM and those who were wilfully ignorant. Disabled shooters, particularly the one armed have always been allowed to possess semiautomatic shotguns, loading can easily be accomplished with one hand; having the stump of the other arm helps.
