If they try that on me, I will go with "oh, those rules don't apply to me".

Look, if there's nobody else waiting to have their receipts checked and it's convenient for me to do so, I'll let them scan my docket.

But if there's a queue and I need to be somewhere else, I'm walking past everyone and leaving and there's not a thing anyone can do about it.

These stores need to understand that their policies are not laws.

But again, I'd never take it out on the poor person on the door.

That just doesn't make sense. If they're losing goods then that's on them, especially now that the checkout is now, check middle. Check "out". Out of store once monetary transaction is complete.

What's also a little odd with Kmart's large circular "Please Pay Here" signs hanging from the ceiling is that the actual place where you pay isn't underneath the signs where one would normally expect it to be.

It's not far away but I would still have expected it to be under the sign.

At least it is in all the Kmarts I've seen here in Perth.

Check out (pardon the pun) this bullshit from Kmart:

“The decision was made several years ago to place Kmart registers in the centre of the store to make shopping more convenient, ensuring store entrances are free of queues and clutter, and allowing customers to enter and exit with ease."

Making them queue up to have their dockets scanned is in no way "allowing customers to exit with ease".

And, I don't remember ever having any trouble leaving the store when the checkouts were at the front.
