Been on FTTP with Telstra since September 2015.

Was on 25/5 until about 18 months ago when Telstra emailed me and said they were giving me a 6 month free trial of 50/20 and at the end of the 6 months they would contact me again and ask if I wanted to keep the 50/20 (presumably at a higher cost) or go back to my original 25/5.

18 months later and Telstra haven't contacted me again about my increased speed "6 month trial", I'm still on 50/20 and my bill is still the same every month.

Can't complain about that.  Cool

Interesting Carl...

Your FTTP speeds don't look all that crash hot? I'd have expected much
faster than 54 down and 18 up.

We're paying for alleged 50/20 speeds with Telstra, but we've never
even got close to that—our best ever was 31/12.

I've just got acknowledgement from the TIO that they've pushed my
complaint on to Telstra in order to force them to correct their non
compliance speed-wise.

If Telstra can't correct the fault, they'll have to give me a discount in
future, and possibly a refund for past under-performance.

—I live in hope LOL.

Looks like they might have fixed the problem, I'll check again this afternoon

My provider had me listening to music on the phone for about 20mins yesterday, I hung up and called Active8me to sign up with them but more music so hung up again and decided to keep checking my speed. I got through to Active8me the day before, but delayed signing up till I did more research.

But bingo, the speed picked up last night to where it used to be before. I think Westnet was throttling the speed ... not sure if it's illegal or not, but it should be, if in fact they did do it

Same speeds again today ... seems it's fixed but they're not very high numbers are they? After seeing what you guys are getting, a hundred or more, I'll do some research to find out just how much speed I'm supposed to be getting from Westnet satellite internet

Download Mbps
11.46

Upload Mbps
0.38

So this is what I've concluded about the extremely slow speed problem that went on for nearly a week.

1} It could have been maintenance, but you usually get a notification for that, I got none

2) The satellite may have been interfered with in some way or another

3) Westnet may have engaged in speed "throttling"

4) Hackers

But two things are certain, it wasn't my equipment, nor was it bad weather

It doesn't make any difference which ISP you use, or how
much you pay, your internet speed is governed by how
it gets to your residence.

In my case it's FTTN, and then 250m of copper pair lying
in a trench filled with muddy water.

I could pay $95 a month or $55 a month, and it'd make
not one iota of difference to my speed.      And it sux.

That's why I have a 4G radio link for my internet.
I regularly get 100 Mbps.

Well, it's how it gets to your computer ... things can go wrong in your house with modem, Wifi, interference from household appliances, too many devices using your internet ... these problems added to copper wire outside your house means you'll get very little signal at your computer

https://www.iinet.net.au/internet-products/broadband/speed-test/ ... there's a short video in this link explaining NBN speeds

My satellite connection is just a dish picking up a signal and usually only real bad weather is the cause of the internet speed dropping. There was no bad weather and yet I could only get 0.08 speed. The problem ended as suddenly as it started, so I reckon my provider was fooling around with it or maybe the Russians were hacking the satellite lol, you never know, we don't get told anything

But yes, my cheap internet has always had a reasonable speed. It wasn't the "cheapness" that caused the 0.08 problem, it was something else entirely

Does anyone know how to fix constant buffering in video streaming? Usually, the streaming is uninterrupted. But lately, I go about a minute before I have to stop to allow for buffering to allow me to continue my video.

Not sure, but here's a link to read ....

https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-stop-constant-buffering-on-streaming-v...

My signal is still playing up, not as bad as it was a week ago, but it's still not right, some things are blacked out and images take a little while to load

I did think that deleting the cache would do some good. But, the reworking of the Windows Media Player settings seems to have the video buffering issue fixed.
