Floods in Victoria
Oct 18th, 2022 at 8:41am

Well I know where I'll be spending my next two months. I will probably have limited time for Internet. Time to brush up on Victorian legislation.

Fake news.

Just ask Ajax and lee.

Matter of fact, Ajax has a map with a volcano that clearly explains this is all fake news.

Lots of floods all over the world. Due to AGW? A warming world has a higher evaporation rate and so heavier precipitation (including more hail falls and bigger hailstones.

Are there many more floods than usual? Or, is there is just more transmission of news on regions outside one's country?

The information below excludes Australian floods.

Vietnam is a standout with a 500 mm rain storm.

Canada East coast houses washed into the sea.

Just an idea - thinking outside the box:

I am wondering if there is a solution of sacrificing large areas of farmland
during floods to help drain the Murray river?
example:
I just checked Google maps.
Lake Mulwala has farmland up to 30km and more around it
which has many areas lower in height that the lake.
The lake is at 124m in altitude and a lot of land around it gets down to below 100m.
If there were many gigantic water pumps the river
could be pumped out on to that low lying land.

Sorry for the farmers but it would save towns along the way
from being flooded such as Echuca and also dozens of other towns.

We have no infrastructure for these flood events -
no dams - nothing.
The most powerful but small engines are aircraft jet engines.
Something based on that connected to 1 meter wide pipes
to drain the river in emergencies.
We don't seem to have a dam to hold the water
and we don't have any way of pumping the water away from the river.
We are not prepared for floods - there are not even proper levees.

Large rivers in other parts of the world have huge dams which control them.
What is going on in Australia?

They weren't doing their job which is to protect people from floods.

We look more like Bangladesh now than Australia.

Huh! Yep it’s only Vic… the zombie state anyway  Tongue
Well for first time here since we’ve lived for 30 years … the creek bank had burst in past and we had so much damage with fences (oh the power of water!) and road under water … but now it’s no more since they finally put in bigger pipes under road so creek water can flow better… wow… first time in 30 years we didn’t flood here! But we still sense it could.

Right now as I type this I woke up this morning only to find 2/3 of this state is under a "severe red flag warning" which means a high fire danger. About 80% of Kansas is and there are wild fires burning in California (again) and New Mexico. That's unheard of in late October.

But I know it's all fake. Because any minute Ajax will come along with a map that shows a volcano that explains everything on why climate change isn't real and lee will Google some Koch-funded horseshit that this all happened before.  So I'm going to rest easy as Rome burns. Literally.
