Pandemic is over in the US - Joe Biden
Sep 21st, 2022 at 10:38am

It never started in the first place. The good news is they didn't get all of us with their poison jabs Wink

Covid-19 pandemic is over in the US - Joe Biden

President Joe Biden has declared the pandemic over in the US, even as the number of Americans who have died from Covid continues to rise.

"We're still doing a lot of work on it. But the pandemic is over," said Mr Biden in a television interview.

Statistics show that over 400 Americans on average are dying from the virus each day.

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said last week that the end of the pandemic was "in sight".

In an interview with CBS programme 60 Minutes aired on Sunday, Mr Biden said the situation was rapidly improving, even though a lot of work was being done to control the virus.

The interview - aired over the weekend - was partly filmed on the floor of the Detroit Auto Show, where the president gestured towards the crowds.

He is just playing politics with technicalities.

Funny thing is that many on the right are blowing up about it, yes that's right the same people who never believed that there was a pandemic now argue that it isn't over.

"Pandemic is over in the US - Joe Biden"

Has he sent a memo to Covid19 and told "him/her" the pandemic is over?

Shocked

Joe might also want to send a memo to Monkeypox asking "him/her" to stop spreading worldwide as well.

Just a friendly, orthopoxvirus joining the mild pandemic party 🥳

Oh, and does it sound like the pandemic is over when about 3,000 Americans are still dying every week?

'Covid is not over': Top US health expert after Joe Biden's 'pandemic is over' remarks

Quote:
Even though the country continues to grapple with coronavirus infections, US President Joe Biden said in an interview aired on Sunday that “the pandemic is over." One of the top US health economists Dr Eric Fegl-Ding took to Twitter to confront the US President's ‘pandemic is over’ remark. The toll of the COVID-19 pandemic has diminished significantly but still almost 3,000 Americans are dying from COVID-19 every single week, the epidemiologist tweeted sharing a clip of Biden's interview conducted with CBS' "60 Minutes" program.

“Heck no. With all due respect, @JoeBiden — you’re wrong. Pandemic is not over. Almost 3,000 Americans are dying from #COVID19 every single week. A weekly 9/11 is a very big deal. Don’t even get me started on #LongCOVID—wreaking havoc on millions more," he tweeted.

But, I'm sure the majority of Americans will have swallowed the "Covid is over" Kool-Aid just like the majority of Australians seem to have.

Yes in Australia the death rate increased when it all ended. During the lock downs distancing etc we had around 3,000 deaths. It is now near 15,000.

Shhh... don't mention BA.2.75.2 or it might upset a few peoples' Christmas plans (I've heard it's already arrived in Australia which is no surprise seeing as there is no more vaccination required or testing done for overseas arrivals and no more quarantine).

Quote:
Omicron sublineage BA.2.75.2 exhibits extensive escape from neutralising antibodies

And, more worrying is this:

Quote:
BA.2.75.2 was resistant to neutralisation by Evusheld (tixagevimab + cilgavimab), but remained sensitive to bebtelovimab.

So, not only are the newest variants evading the vaccines they're now starting to evade antivirals as well.

But... the pandemic is over, right?

A long but interesting read.

Pandemic Nihilism, Social Murder, and the Banality of Evil

By Nate Holdren

Quote:
Every day in the pandemic, many people’s lives end, and others are made irrevocably worse.

These daily losses matter inestimably at a human level, yet they do not matter in any meaningful way at all to the public and private institutions that govern our lives. Our suffering is inconsequential to the machinery of power and to those who compose and operate that machinery.

This has been the case all along, but in this phase of the pandemic, our suffering has been nihilistically recast as not just inconsequential, but inevitable by the administration and the voices it has cultivated as its proxies.

This was written about the United States but it definitely applies to Australia (and most western countries) as well.

Someone tell @POTUS
@JoeBiden
that pandemic is not over.

Doesn't sound like it's over to me either.

I don't agree with him but he is not saying that the risk or the virus is over only its status as a pandemic.

Like I said I think he is wrong looking at the numbers but since they have not really done anything for a long time maybe he didn't have much option.

And..... here comes another one.

Scientists on alert as new Covid strain tears through ’multiple countries’

A new, highly transmissible Covid variant is now tearing through “multiple countries” – and it has scientists on high alert.

Quote:
A new Covid variant is ripping through “multiple countries”, with experts fearing it could be even more transmissible than the BA. 5 Omicron strain.

Named BF. 7 – short for BA. 5.2.1.7 – the new variant is spreading faster than most other variants of interest that scientists are currently tracking in the US.

While it accounted for 1.7 per cent of sequenced infections in America last week, it now represents 25 per cent of cases in Belgium, while Denmark, Germany and France have each recorded 10 per cent of the world’s identified cases, Fortune reports.

Dr Stuart Ray, vice chair of medicine for data integrity and analytics at Johns Hopkins’ Department of Medicine, told the publication the US Centres of Disease Control (CDC) recently named it as a separate strain after cases hit one per cent, with that figure expected to grow.

Meanwhile... "nothing more to see here, pandemic is over" is the ongoing mantra in Australia.

Especially with Christmas not too far away. I'm expecting to see Christmas trees and cards, etc. in stores any time now.

And, I've noticed all the Halloween rubbish is already in the shops - and Halloween isn't until the end of October (and it still has no relevence to Australia - except for the opportunity for shops to sell more useless, unnecessary junk).

Ok, let's try it this way.

WHO chief says end of Covid pandemic ‘still a long way off’

The head of the World Health Organization on Thursday tempered his assertion that the end of the Covid-19 pandemic was near, warning that declaring the crisis over was "still a long way off".

Quote:
Last week, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters that the world had "never been in a better position to end the pandemic... The end is in sight."

And US President Joe Biden went further in an interview broadcast Sunday, declaring that the pandemic in the United States "is over".

But speaking to the media again Thursday from the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Tedros appeared less upbeat, making clear that "being able to see the end, doesn't mean we are at the end."

And we'll never be "at the end" here in Australia now that some of the last remaining Covid protections have been removed and with new variants on the way - variants that not only evade the current vaccines but are also beginning to make antivirals ineffective as well.
