EV Fire truck
Sep 8th, 2022 at 7:09pm

"Want a glimpse of just how cultist North American governments have become over all things “green,” especially electric vehicles? Vancouver is giddy about being the first city in the country to receive an all-electric fire truck.

Well, the new e-truck will cost $300,000 more than a comparable diesel model, pump 40 per cent less water and have such a short range (30 km) because of its enormous weight that it will have to have backup diesel power in case it runs out of juice on the way to a blaze.

But, the city points out, it won’t give off diesel fumes and will be much quieter than existing diesel fire trucks. Oh, yeah, cause that’s what I’m most concerned about when my house is on fire – that the pumper might be a little too loud and stinky for the neighbours.

Maybe the ultimate in eco-cultish thinking gone wrong, though, was on display in California late last month.

Taking a cue from our own “green” PM, Justin Trudeau, on Aug. 24 California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that internal-combustion vehicles could no longer be sold in his state starting in 2035 (the same year as Trudeau’s similar decree)."

There is a place for EVs as we know them today, especially around urban areas, but not in emergency vehicles of any kind. Should they become lighter and have good range in the future, they might become practical.

Yeah, maybe we should return to combustible fossil fuel fire trucks!

We must have emergency vehicles that produce CO2, so that they worsen climate change, the thing that probably started the fires they are there to put out.

CO2 is a fire extinguisher. Did you notice - "the new e-truck will cost $300,000 more than a comparable diesel model, pump 40 per cent less water and have such a short range (30 km) because of its enormous weight that it will have to have backup diesel power in case it runs out of juice on the way to a blaze.

Wow all that in one vehicle. Our Fire truck carries 5,000 litres of water. that new one 3,000 litres. The cost is phenomenal. Multiply that by a 100. And it still runs on diesel. Just as well you wouldn't want the battery to run flat pumping water. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

It is a greenhouse gas. Where did you get the idea I thought it wasn't? Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

The limited 30km range would make this particular vehicle impractical for
use in Australia—considering we often travel 100km to the fire ground.
One of the main enemies of lithium batteries is excessive heat, which is
exactly what you'd encounter in any vehicle at the centre of a bushfire
zone.

The radiant heat flux in a fire zone can reach 100 kW/m2. By comparison,
the average radiant heat flux from the sun at midday on a summer’s day
is about 1 kW/m2.

That is sort of true, although the amount of CO2 emitted by emergency vehicles is a tiny amount of vehicle emissions as a whole. Likewise, it would be foolish for the military to go EV. Now, I know some people are inarticulate, but GIFS really don't do anything except make the user feel good about themselves in the absence of a sound argument.
