When you break Spirituality down into its physical form, just like Religion is in the form of a 'Book' or more.
It is in essence 'Fashion'. Fashion describes a person's or people's spirituality more than anything else.
The 'fig leaf' in the naked garden is a good example of where Spirituality and its Fashion have become justified. A 'naked person' in the woods - is considered Primitive and 'non-spiritual'.
Mind you, in very hot climates - less fashion is justified. But then jewellry and other adornments come into play.

Sadly for Sydney, it's spirituality is looking pretty confused and Gay come the Mardi Gras.
But luckily Australian Fashion is more than just a bunch of Homosexuals exploiting it just for their sexual activism.

It is just Buddhism without the hokus pokus.

A frog jumps into a pond.

Hear the splash.

Really listen to it.

eckhart is the proponent of one of the 4 P's

presence

not ruminating on the past or thinking "i'll be happy when"

if you think "ill be happy when" you are forming pathways in your brain that tell your brain you arent happy now and those pathways are destructive.

so eckhart is correct.

the other 3 P's are

purpose (bounce out of bed with a plan)

peer group (have firm boundaries and do not allow negative people into your ecosystem)

positive life (which is the flip side of the above...seek out positive people).

the one thing that eckharts teaching could stuff people up is that he spent 2 years sitting on a park bench watching the ducks.

he is a very chill guy and obviously enlightened

but a lot of people might use his frame as an excuse to not be "action taking"

the big problme with emlightenment is that without being an "executor", enlightenment can look kind of like apathy.

its why i would study far more people then just eckhart.

probably the most nuanced of the 'self help" books is robert greenes 48 laws of power.

a masterful work. a new and modern "the art of war "

I don't think - nor do you, I imagine - that Echart, Watts et al teach others to be Echarts, Wattses et at.  They are not operating in closed religious orders like Carthusians or Zen Buddhist monks.
As another one said, a pupil repays his master poorly if he remains merely a pupil.  Each of us have to figure out how to bee ourselves ('self-realisation', dread word). What masters tell us is where to look fruitfully and that putting our hands in fire will really hurt.  The rest is on us.

good point frank

still, i do see people rationalise their unwillingness to really "go for it' as part of being spiritually awakened.

i dont think you can solve a problem until you transcend the paradisgm in which the problem was created.

for example, young men have a sex drive and a drive to be successful in $$.

now thats not spiritually awakened, but i think you have to go thru that paradigm, be successful in that paradigm before you can transcend that paradigm.

a guy who doesnt have social skills with women and doesnt have the ability to make cash, cant just skip those steps and go straight to reading eckhart or watts a(who i will have to investigate) , and then think he has "arrived"

One Alan Watts line has stuck with me for years.

"I'm reminded of a quote by Lao Tzu: 'Those who know don’t say. Those who say don’t know'; and yet, he said it.'

Good luck thinking you've arrived listening to Alan Watts; he was a Zen Buddhist.
