Here's where abortions are now banned or strictly limited, and where they may be soon

Abortion is now illegal or heavily restricted in at least 11 states following the Supreme Court's historic decision Friday to overturn Roe v. Wade. Twelve other states have laws in place that pave the way to quickly ban or severely restrict access to them, according to research from the Guttmacher Institute, a group that favors abortion rights. Several additional states appear likely to pass new laws.

The court's ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health effectively overturned the precedent set by the 1973 Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade, which affirmed that a woman has a right to seek an abortion up until the point that the fetus could be "viable" outside of the uterus. It opened the way for states to enact many laws that were previously tied up in court, and to pass new ones.

I do see that several states, nine according to tonight's news, have moved to make it difficult, if not illegal to have an abortion, with maybe  20 all up expected to do the same. However the answer is to not vote for these state governments in the next election instead of violent protest.  Simples.

Didn't think that one all the way through, did you champ.

Did the supreme court decision prohibit abortion?

The clear answer is NO!

LOL. No it's not.

God you're an idiot.

If Belgarion had said, "while the SCOTUS didn't prohibit abortion per se" or "while the SCOTUS didn't specifically prohibit abortion" ... he would have been correct and received no argument from me.

What he said however is that the ruling didn't prohibit abortion at all. Then went on to say how it had.

Tell me Larry, is abortion now prohibited to many girls and women, soon to be more, as a direct result of the SCOTIS ruling?

Can you even understand what i've said? Doubtful.

Now Mothra, can you understand? The supreme court did not prohibit abortion, it devolved the decision making to the states.  Roll Eyes

Which they knew would prohibit abortion, yes?

So are abortions now prohibited to many girls and women, soon to be more, as a direct result of the SCOTUS ruling?

You really don't want to say.

How could the SC know that?

Because there were about 16 states where the laws to ban abortion have been in place for decades which would take effect the day that Roe V Wade was overturned and SCOTUS (along with everyone else) knew that was the case. With many other republican controlled states where it was a known that they would put laws in place as soon as Roe v Wade went down.

The outcome of this decision was well known to the corrupt dishonest Justices who made the ruling.

They didn't spend 40 odd years setting this up not knowing what would happen.

Now that things have settled down a little - this is a disgraceful finding by that court.... certain to cause much angst for many undeserving people....

I will say that in many states it is not a total ban - but there are conditions.....

Anyone got a link to this Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health finding?  Just for analysis.... or at least a rundown on what is was all about....

Won't change anything here in Australia.... no precedent to overturn.... we have our own laws in place....

Dobbs V Jackson was the Mississippi case finalised the other day that has now over ruled Roe V Wade.

Planned Parenthood V Casey is the other relevant case from about 1992 that effectively made Roe V Wade precedent on President as declared by Brett Kavanaugh in his senate hearing. Basically this is saying that Roe V Wade was set in concrete.

Now let's look at this with a little reason, there been enough nonsense thrown about over the past weeks and specifically the last few days.....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dobbs_v._Jackson_Women%27s_Health_Organization

"In March 2018, the Mississippi Legislature passed the Gestational Age Act, which banned any abortion operation after the first 15 weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions for a medical emergency or severe fetal abnormality but none for cases of rape or incest.[16] The medical emergency exception allows abortions done to save the life of a pregnant woman and in situations where "the continuation of the pregnancy will create a serious risk of substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function".[17][18] The severe fetal abnormality exception allows abortions of fetuses whose defects will leave them incapable of living outside the womb" .......

"Within a day of the Gestational Age Act's passage, Mississippi's only abortion clinic, Jackson Women's Health Organization, and one of its doctors, Sacheen Carr-Ellis, sued state officials Thomas E. Dobbs, state health officer with the Mississippi State Department of Health, and Kenneth Cleveland, executive director of the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure, to challenge the Act's constitutionality.[16] The clinic does surgical abortions up to 16 weeks' gestation and is represented in court by the Center for Reproductive Rights."

"The state appealed to the Fifth Circuit, which upheld Reeves's ruling in a 3–0 decision in December 2019"

"Mississippi petitioned its appeal of the Fifth Circuit decisions to the Supreme Court in June 2020. Its petition, filed by Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch, focused on three questions from the appeals process.[34] In its petition, Mississippi asked the Court to revisit the viability standard on the basis of the standard's inflexibility,[35] as well as inadequate accommodation of present understandings of life before birth.[36] The filing stated that fetuses can detect pain and respond to it at 10–12 weeks gestational age,[37] and asked the Court to allow the prohibition of "inhumane procedures".[38] The petition also contended that the viability standard inadequately addresses the protection of potential human life. Mississippi considered this a State interest from the "onset of the pregnancy" onward"

Now that - Poppets - is the case in a nutshell.....

Now the finding:-

"The Court issued its decision on June 24, 2022. In a 6–3 judgment, the Court reversed the Fifth Circuit's decision and remanded the case for further review. The majority opinion, joined by five of the justices, held that abortion was not a protected right under the Constitution, overturning both Roe and Casey, and returned the decision regarding abortion regulations back to the states.[118][119] As a result, Dobbs is considered a landmark decision of the Court."

You can read the rest yourselves....... of concern is that this ban makes no provision for victims of rape or incest... though it appears, so far, that early terminations are still legal....

Anyone?  Are there any states in which early terminations are ...... prohibited?  ARE terminations due to rape or incest protected?

Anyone reasonable?  Be a change....  Roll Eyes

I never argued otherwise... simply stated that abortion is not a right..... here it is a privilege....

Get over your wrongful use of the word 'prohibited' = prohibition.... abortion is NOT prohibited = does not suffer prohibition - it is restricted to specific circumstances....

Read your article...

Now discuss the facts and not the man..  give it a go once in a while.... some of the conditions are clearly unworkable ... now harken back to what I said days ago - it should be up to the people....

What IS wrong with you?  You ideologues get so trapped in your own circle jerking that you miss all reason, let alone facts..... no wonder you all have enemies... counting you lot as enemies proves I am right... your lot, on the other hand, spitefully create your own without reason or remorse.

You remind me of the Red Guards, who would bully old teachers and such with numbers of young thugs, lock them up, abuse them, humiliate them, starve them even when they were old, or frail and often ill, until they confessed their crimes as enemies of the Cultural Revolution.

You really are very sick individuals.... and you all need weeding out as the true enemies of the state and ordinary people.  Animals, all of you and the real fascists among us today...

You, Lefty, Linus and a few others here should hang your heads in shame....... you are cyber-bullies and you are a  disgrace to the human race.  That's just me being nice......

I hope freediver gets rid of you all... you deserve it..... or the government that got Lefty.......

That's not what you said.

You said abortion wasn't prohibited in the US ... wrong .... and you said none of the states had yet decided ... wrong.

Face it, once again you leapt in, armed with nothing, and made a colossal fool of yourself.

There was a previous article that said there are 11 states with pre-emptive legislation in place and a further number in the mid 20's for States that are about to enact legislation. It will likely be all over the place but guaranteed is that the right to abortion is gone in all of those 30 ++ states.

Quote:
ARE terminations due to rape or incest protected?

The supreme court washed their hands of it - nothing is protected. Depending on the wording of state legislation types of contraception could even be illegal.

This was the first step in the process used to get this case to the supreme court in order to allow this decision to be made. It was simply the staged setting to give the corrupt Justices the case that they wanted, the case they were put in place to make the decision they were given the job as supreme court Justices to change. They all knew that doing this was the reason that they were being appointed.

Quote:
"The state appealed to the Fifth Circuit, which upheld Reeves's ruling in a 3–0 decision in December 2019"

Step 2.

All you have done is to lay out the pre planned contrived corrupt setup steps meant to give the supreme court the opportunity to make the decision that the republican members had been appointed to make.

Now that things have settled down a little

You mean now you're no longer arguing a position that was not only incorrect, it was based on absolutely zero knowledge and you've now been informed?

I never argued otherwise... simply stated that abortion is not a right..... here it is a privilege....

That's not what you said.

You said abortion wasn't prohibited in the US ... wrong .... and you said none of the states had yet decided ... wrong.

Face it, once again you leapt in, armed with nothing, and made a colossal fool of yourself.

It's not prohibited in the United States - some states have put serious restrictions on it - but it is nowhere prohibited.  Don't you understand English?

Face it, once again you leapt in, armed with nothing, and made a colossal fool of yourself.

Get over your wrongful use of the word 'prohibited' = prohibition.... abortion is NOT prohibited - it is restricted to specific circumstances....

Read your article...

Just how wrong can you actually be?

I'm sorry, i tend only to read the first line of your posts, if that even. The rest slipped past me.

You are clearly wrong. Again.

How much wrong can one person be?

You, Lefty, Linus and Smith are always wrong... you've never been right yet, and you refuse to even consider reasonable discussion without your built-in problems coming out.

In which states is it absolutely prohibited?
