But why would your hubby want Rabbit when Kangaroo would be nicer, healthier and cheaper. Put a real kick in his step. Just cook it low, slow and thin. Yummy.
Cook it right and it isn't 'gamey' in the slightest.

You have no idea what you are talking about.  Kangaroo is shite, however you cook it it worse than rabbit.

Get the wild ones Lisa, they aren't pumped full of antibiotics and growth hormones.

Yeah? Awesome! I'll put that order through then.

1 (wild) rabbit stew is gonna be on our menu soon.

I'm reviewing a few rabbit stew recipes here atm.

Note : Once I've tackled that I'm going to have to source "pigs trotters" (hubby's mum used to cook these for him and he misses his mum I guess)

Rabbits (pests) are for poor little Irish.

Kangaroos are for Aussies.

Rabbits are for Irish who ran out of potatoes.

Rubbish! Greeks and Italians love them too. I recall when I was a kid in the 70's my uncles used to grab their rifles and go shooting for rabbits. Of course all we cousins saw was the finished cooked product on the dinner table. My mum and aunts kept watch over us as we ate the rabbit stew because they kept worrying about bullet shrapnel which may have accidentally been missed. So we were taught to slowly examine our food carefully before eating it. Actually we were shown to pull the rabbit meat with a fork and then eat it. But yeah my mum and aunts would be on duty going round double checking our plates of food and making sure no bullet shrapnel appeared unexpectedly.

Looking back I guess it was a pretty interesting thing to experience as a kid.

Now look at this type of rabbit.

I wouldn't know the difference. Why? They basically look the same to me.

(I don't want to choose the farmed rabbit, pay for the farmed rabbit then end up receiving a wild rabbit)

Note the price difference 😳

Jesus Christ, go up into my paddocks with a gun

You claimed to live alone with your kid on 11 acres and called that a farm we call that a hobby farm.

In some states 11 acres is way to small to shoot guns it also has to be zoned Rural to be legal.

Then we have the Green idiots who you support who want to ban hunting.

Maybe buy Guinea Pig instead of Rabbit. Apparently more tastier.
City people aren't slickers, they're suckers. Paying that much for a Rabbit is just stupid and desperate.

In some parts of South America like Peru Guinea pig in on the menu.

I'm forever being asked to prep a hot rabbit stew by the hubby.

To do this I will need to SOURCE AND BUY a rabbit. Why? I don't know anyone who owns a gun AND who goes shooting for rabbits.

Ok so now here's my problem (and also why I've started this topic).

There are 2 types of rabbit being sold around Sydney.

1. Wild <--- bloody expensive

2. Farmed <--- super bloody expensive

My questions :

1. Which type do I choose and why?

2. Does anyone know the best place to buy rabbit? By best I mean honest AND decently priced.

I would go wild over farmed anyday.

If cost is a concern try Gordons suggestion with Gumtree they're free.  Wink

You could always take up hunting lots of women are doing it these days.

A few medium range rabbits for the pot.

They taste pretty good. As a man i like some form of dead critter on my dinner plate not into vegan crap or tofu.

I don't think i would try this.

The popular dish in Sydney is Rats. Just visit your local Ching-a-ling store on 'every' corner.

I was having a convo with a friend about our rabbits on our property. Should  we have a food crisis at least we have rabbits… and we have rabbit traps too. Says me.
Says my friend …. how do we know if it’s not got myxomatosis…. Hmmmm I do recall a decade ago they laced the crown land near us with that crap.

So when they say rabbits caught in the wild… that makes me wonder.
Probably better to go with farmed rabbits.
