The people are so desperate for change that they'd vote for anyone and give them a try - no result and they can expect the same treatment next time around themselves.

Queensland has always changed party in government frequently in recent years - clearly none of them have got the message yet.

People expect things to get better - not worse and worse - country's been heading towards political anarchy since the heady days of Abbott - whose elevation to the top spot I predicted would be a watershed in Australian politics....

Parties are on notice - lift your game or you're goneski... you can bet Albo is watching like a hawk and realising how very important it is to control the rabid nutters in Labor with their fantasies of some massive social revolution to set them and their chosen ones up Uber Alles.

He's already given notice in stating the same stance re Chinese aggression - no words minced there.... that's what it is pure and simple - that he intends to follow the centre of the road and not wander too far off to the left into the mud.  Too much of that Leftist neo-Fascism and heads will roll for true, and he knows it.

I was honestly expecting Labor's postal vote campaign to edge them out.

In the end, the people have spoken.

Red, Green, Teal, as long as it wasn't Blue, Yellow or Orange, it's a good outcome.

The centre is more where Australia needs to be after the slow drift to the right from all the majors.

The protest vote to the Greens and the Teals is just further evidence of that.

The Libs have a lot of work to do and they've gone with the wrong leader unless he's a placeholder to make the next guy or gal look better.

But the brand of conservatism we've had to endure the last 9 years, governing for the highest bidder with no amount of waste too much, no level of incompetence or inaction too much, no level of spending without anything to show for it, those days are over.

The people understand the preferential voting system better than ever before.

We'll slowly see the importance of 2PP polling lose its significance, although that won't happen any time soon with the current Liberal talking point highlighting how bad Labor did on the primary vote.

Despite them doing far far worse...

You need to end this quibbling.

The Australian people did not elect a conservative government.

It's true - Adam said that Labor will have to listen now
if it wants the Greens to vote with them on other issues.
That's how it works John -
it's called political horse trading.

no, irrespective of what you or any other idiot says, it's not true. labor has plenty of independents  it can negotiate with. The greens are eunuchs.

https://tallyroom.aec.gov.au/HouseStateFirstPrefsByParty-27966-NAT.htm

Libs scored 24% while Nationals scored 8%. LNP (Qld, which picks which fed party room, lib or nats) scored 3%.

None of these 3 can form a majority government and so form the Coalition - this isn't one party but 3.  If they could, they would boot of the other players and solo it - hence every election win, they have to negotiate their alliance - which is kept secret from public.

ALP scored 33%.  That's more than either of the 3 parties separately.  A more fair way is to combine this with Greens of 11% - because we know that while Greens will never form a majority, if it came to hung parliaments, they are more likely to ally with ALP.  This coalition forms 44%.

The "left" (either slightly or a lot, depending on your views) has exceeded far more than the Coalition's "right".

Another point ofc is that we know that people are far more aware that their 1st preferences can send a strong signal to parties now. I myself voted Greens 1st and ALP 2nd, knowing far more likely that ALP will gain the seat ultimately.
This preferential voting has been publicised as "the thing to do" by quite a few people and parties.
Hence the "not gaining first preferences" becomes less important compared to "2 party preferences".  That would be an interesting statistic to analyse.
