Teacher and 14 pupils killed in Texas school shooting.

President Biden to speak about shooting soon

US President Joe Biden has been briefed on the school shooting in Texas and will speak about it this evening when he arrives back at the White House, according to his press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

In a tweet, Ms Jean-Pierre wrote that "his prayers are with the families impacted by this awful event".

Gun deaths are now the leading cause of death for US children and teenagers, overtaking car crashes, according to research released in April.

In 2020 - the last year for which complete figures are available - 4,300 young Americans died of firearms-related injuries.

According to the New England Journal of Medicine,

the overall rate of gun deaths of all kinds - including suicides, murders, and accidents - rose by 29.5%, twice that of the wider population.

Gun violence in the US has steadily increased since the Covid-19 pandemic began in early 2020.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called Tuesday's mass shooting at
Robb Elementary School in the town of Uvalde a "horrific tragedy."

""What happened in Uvalde is a horrific tragedy that cannot be tolerated in the state of Texas. There is swift action being taken by local law enforcement," he told reporters."

He said the shooter was 18 years old and is dead.

"It's believed that responding officers killed him," he said. "It appears that two responding officers were struck by rounds but have no serious injuries."

He added that the local authorities investigating the shooting will be given any required resources.

Additionally, Abbott added that the shooter reportedly also shot his grandmother before going to the elementary school.

"It is being reported that the subject shot his grandmother right before he went into the school. I have no further information about the connection between those two shootings," he said. "The subject is reported to have been a student at Uvalde High School and is a US citizen," the governor said.

Uvalde is about 85 miles west of San Antonio.

Typical USA that they have to head off conspiracy theories by stating he was a citizen

Hypocrite.

It's because of evil, worthless pieces of shlt like Abbott that these things happen.

Texans can carry handguns without a license or training starting Sept. 1, after Gov. Greg Abbott signs permitless carry bill into law

Texans can carry handguns without a license or training starting Sept. 1, after Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday signed the permitless carry bill into law.

House Bill 1927 eliminates the requirement for Texas residents to obtain a license to carry handguns if they’re not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a gun. The signing was reported by the Texas Legislature's official website, which tracks the progress of legislation. Abbott's office has announced a ceremonial signing of the bill and other gun-related legislation at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Proponents of what Republicans call “constitutional carry” argued that Texas should follow the lead of at least 20 other states with similar laws on the books. Meanwhile, gun control advocates are disappointed the Legislature made it easier to carry firearms after repeated instances of gun violence — including the 2019 massacres in El Paso and Midland-Odessa that left 30 people dead.

Trump,
When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best.
They're not sending you.  They're sending people that have lots of problems,
and they're bringing those problems with us.
They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime.
They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.
