Teal Independents
May 22nd, 2022 at 9:52am

I hope this movement becomes permanent. I always struggle to find a party whose views match my own, particularly on economics and climate change. The teal independents were a kick up the arse for the Liberals and their absurd rhetoric on climate change. If Labor ends up running a minority government, we might even get the carbon tax back.

Will the liberals lurch to the right on account of losing their more moderate MP's, or will self preservation kick in and see them chase the middle ground again?

Yesterday in the voting queue I asked the liberal guy handing out how to vote cards if they support a carbon tax. He started ranting like a lunatic about how wonderful CO2 is. He was very loud, and I let him talk for as long as I could. No-one would look at him after that, except a lady behind me who was in love with scomo.

I voted for my indy for no other reason than she's a local, unlike the Liberal who is a blow in.

I also put Labor second because he's a local and a member of a surf club.

The Greens lady handing out cards would not even look at me. Perhaps I looked to happy listening to the Liberal guy.

I believe the rise of independents is the best outcome of this election.

Let's hope it continues to grow.

Political parties with massive majorities are prone to arrogance and corruption.

Like a gun to the head of autocrats, the only thing that stands between democratic-majority political parties and their overreach or corruption is accountability demanded by the nonaligned.

Which is precisely why I'd prefer to see minority government and celebrate other progressive parties existing.  I'd prefer more of what happens in canberra to require some form of negotation of ideas

The Teals are really a party despite claims of them being Independant. S Holmes a Court financed them he started our first windfarm so he should get a great ROI from buying a few politicians to push his agenda. I guess buying politicians is only bad sometimes.

If Albo can't rule with a majority i think he will go with Teals over Greens as they have fewer demands.

It's really a kick up the ass to the Greens with the rise of the Teals. The greens drifted away from the environment with commie socialist bullshit the Teals with focus mainly on climate ended up easily taking care of the Greens as well.

It will be an easy gig to be a Greens MP. No pressure, no responsibilities and no one expects you to keep  your ridiculous promises.

It's good to see people drift away from both major parties.

I agree with that. Also the Greens screwed labor up the last time labor went into minority govt with them. Labor is unlikely to forget that'

Greens refused to abandon their principles.  Which is why we get more votes every election....

But Liberals try to pretend Labor are Greens (they are just NOT that good) and that does hurt them in the eyes of the illiterati

There's a big overlap between the Looney Labor left and the Greens, just as there is overlap between the right of Liberals and various small parties.

The major parties have to manage the foible of their extremes.

Is that another way of saying the greens have their tantrums??

Not hard to do when the bar is set so low to start with. Besides, like I said earlier, the greens vote this time was largely a protest vote against the majors.

It means we have integrity LOL!!

I think we got people leaving Labor.  I think they'll stay with us.  Adam Bandt won by a clear majority, not just the most votes, but 55% of the electorate.

Too right it is

The discontent with the two jurassic major parties is evident in their declining primary vote

Voters are realizing they are passed their use-by date, and justifiably giving more modern thinkers a chance

What we need from now on is even more modern thinkers elected to Parliament who cover an even greater range of issues

yeah right. You'd rather no action on climate change than some action after years of demanding action on climate change. You can call that integrity if you like, most people know better.

Adam bandt can only run in one seat.
