Not exactly a rock song, but all the same...

One of my most detested songs would have to be Whitney Houston's
cover of Dolly Parton's 1974 song "I Will Always Love You". Houston
murdered it and turned it into nothing more than vainly showing off
her vocal expertise. I'm guessing she never understood the real meaning
of the lyrics, nor their poignancy as Parton had written them.

Houston was extremely overrated, as a singer of lightweight pop fluff,
and an atrocious actor. She was hardly a role model for young women
either—a drug-addled alcoholic who couldn't even look after her tragically
unhappy daughter Bobbi Kristina.
