Why shut down over the coronavirus pandemic when we stay open despite car crashes?

“You look at automobile accidents, which are far greater than any numbers we're talking about,” Trump said. “That doesn't mean we're going to tell everybody no more driving of cars. So we have to do things to get our country open."

He was not the first to draw this analogy, nor was it the first time that he had done so. It is, however, a bad analogy.

Priceline gave me a free RAT kit so that I can perform up to 5 tests on myself to check for covid 19. Negative result for today. I let my mother (who had 40 years of nursing experience) know what I had done. Her response back was that it was a waste of a test, given that I was not sick. I told her that it was practice for when I get unwell. And there was no guarantee that I could not be asymptomatic. Her response: "Good point". Really? 40+ years in nursing, and she did not understand the symptoms of a virus we have known about for the last 2 years.

The doctors and nurses just parrot whatever the Govt. tells them.
They don't think for themselves.
They can get into a lot of trouble and lose their license
if they have their own thoughts.
It's a bit like the Thought Police in 1984.

The most that the doctors and nurses cared about what the government told them was that their jobs were very secure because of this pandemic scare. Other than that, the doctors and nurses do their jobs independent on what the government tells them.
