Seals eat Sharks
Dec 20th, 2021 at 9:51pm

Leopard Seals must be starving and forced to travel as far north as New Zealand for food, beyond Penguins in the Antarctic.
Recently discovered to have 'shark' in their poos.
Leopard Seals must be risking much to have a munch on Shark.
Especially when there is a Great White explosion in NZ... which is obviously due to the Cage Tourism 'chumming', etc which also saw a more aggressive behavioural change in Great Whites around Stewart Island/Bluff within just 8 years since the chumming-tourism began.
...but no-one is game to admit that.

Shark remains Grin How very general & misleading.

I call bs on any intimation that Leopard seals would be eating top order predator sharks.

They don't specify what type of shark remains were found inside them.

There are many species of sharks - & I'd suggest smaller school shark varieties/bottom dwellers would be what they tackle.

And I'd wager they've always been on their menu.

BTW who or what forced them to travel to NZ.

If you check they've been in NZ waters for centuries.

Always said shark tourism & chumming them up is a stupid idea.

The same with feeding/jumping crocodiles in the Nthn territory rivers.

Don't feed the bears... or Dingoes or wolves ....

or whatever wild predator animal.

I agree. Probably things like wobbies and shovel nose rays.

It's because they are a no take species.

Of course its an insinuated take on Seal v GWS.
Of course, it would be more harmless species of shark to the Leopard Seal.

What I do believe is that Species are now forced to find 'alternative' prey, due to a lack of their more traditional diets - thanks mostly to global over-fishing, pollution and more.

Jesus - don't tell that to Bruce - he's still digesting that surfer from a few weeks ago...

I was wondering just today what happens to old sharks... get eaten in turn, I suppose....

Leopard seals have a wide variety in their diets.... from Krill to other seals.

Quote:
Leopard seals prey on a variety of species, including krill, penguins, birds, fish, seals and cephalopods. It is likely that they are opportunistic in that they prey on whatever is readily available. They are the only seals known to regularly hunt and kill warm-blooded prey, including other seals.

The animals species that may have to look to alternatives would be one that have usually have a very limited diet or a species specific diet that has become less plentiful.
