Alec Baldwin - Tragic Accident
Oct 22nd, 2021 at 7:18pm

Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun while filming a scene in New Mexico on Thursday, causing the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

The incident occurred on the set of “Rust,” an independent feature that was filming at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular production location south of Santa Fe.

Of course, everybody would remember this:

"After being cast to headline The Crow, Brandon Lee had filmed nearly all of his scenes when he was fatally wounded on set by a prop gun."

On the day that the prop gun of “Rust” star Alec Baldwin reportedly went off on set in Santa Fe, N.M., killing the film’s director of photography and injuring its director, the official Twitter account of the late Brandon Lee (run by his sister, Shannon Lee) posted this message:

“Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on ‘Rust.’ No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period.”

Why would Alec Baldwin point a gun at anyone....Even a gun that is considered not loaded or loaded with blanks should not be pointed at anyone....Two people were wounded so were two shots fired at the film crew....Mexico's safety standards maybe (sorry)???

Sad Sad Sad

A 'blank' round at close enough range is able to kill.  Remains to be seen if this was part of the script or if Baldwin was just stupidly mucking around.  Either way he must feel terrible right now.

It's tough, isn't it Phil?

We don't really know if he actually aimed it at anyone though.

We need to wait and see what the investigation uncovers.

It didn't happen in Mexico, either.

It happened in New Mexico, which is a US state.

Anyway, I'm sure we can all agree that this is incredibly sad for the woman involved and her family.

Seams strange that two people were injured who were in the production crew....One person dead from a reported blank shot???

Huh Huh Huh

The stunt coordinator is responsible for the safety of the actors, but of course, there is overlap. Lacking an armorer, the prop master is responsible for the safety of the weapons.

As I have stated in another thread, these productions are insured so the family of the deceased won't be grieving for long ...

Its a common misconception that a so called blank round is harmless, its not, as in this case. The wadding is projected at high speed and can be fatal from a short distance.

A terrible tragedy. I read that filming is going ahead. I imagine that it will be a very sombre set.
