Haven't got much of a functional economy at the moment, have we? Except for the WA mining industry which is probably the only thing keeping Australia 'afloat' right now.

This is also another reason why WA's Premier, Mark McGowan, is so 'paranoid' about stopping Covid outbreaks here (apart from the health system/hospitals not being able to cope) - if the mining industry has to shut down due to Covid then WA and probably the whole of Australia is screwed.

If Australia opens up now and lets Covid 'rip' then I wonder how the economy would fare with tens (or hundreds) of thousands of sick people not being able to work and overwhelming the health system and hospitals? Not to mention the inevitable numerous deaths (but hey, as long as its just the 'oldies' that's probably still OK with you, is it?).
