Poor nutrition and environmental influences skew IQ statistics considerably. I also suspect the higher IQ scores of some Asian countries is due to higher educational expectations.

There is a correlation between average IQ and the risk of contracting infectious diseases. The reason being (apparently) developmentally the brain and the immune system compete for energy. High pathogenic loads and the contraction of diseases focuses the body's energy on the immune system at the cost of neural development.
