Traffic controllers get a good hourly rate for their job. I would not be surprised that bosses do not want to pay overtime.

I'd like to see you stand out in the sun in the middle of summer for 8 hrs . Or rain, depending on where you live.

Or in winter ... especially at night as I have seen on our highways during upgrades.

My fur coat they deserve it......

not that Rocky would know he's never held a full time job.

I have worked 60 hour weeks for a month straight. I could handle 50 hour weeks standing around with a sign in hand and watching for traffic.

you'd last two weeks

I am in pain these days if I stand for more than about 30 minutes.

My record for Hours worked is 28 hours in a day. 7am start got home around 5pm called back 5 minutes later and continued to 10 am the following morning.

My previous job ran on a 35 hour day, done for a technical reason.

Unsub has led a sheltered life and projects that onto everyone else. He thinks that just because he can't (o r won't)  do it, no one can.

I see you have a severe superiority complex. I call bullshit on you working more than 70 hours a week. 50 to 70 hours per week work is very respectable, and believable.

$29.75/hr and $58,000 per year -- minimum. They are not cheaply paid to stand out in the sun in the middle of summer for 8 hours. Or rain, depending on where they live. I did pizza deliveries in my teens. 6 hour days driving around in 30 to 35 degrees heat for lunchtimes. $7.50/hr (plus $1 per delivery). Considered one of the more dangerous jobs in the country, behind several other jobs.

Yeah, I think I could handle it.

there is a big difference between driving around delivering pizzas, and standing still for hours on end.

And pizza delivery isn't remotely dangerous unless you can't drive

Unless you don't count getting bashed or robbed, or in an accident caused by other people, I suppose you could consider the job not dangerous. But, it is in the top 10 of dangerous jobs in the country.

you can get bashed or robbed driving around in a Mr Whippy Van Unsub, or selling newspapers. I did pizza deliveries for about 4 yrs .... there was only one occasion where I really felt threatened, and that was more my 6th sense warning me something wasn't right than anything that overtly happened

You might not. But I have the pay notifications that say I can.

go on, go for a traffic controller job... it certainly pays better than your kitchen hand job. Lets see you do it for real instead of just pretending

You take it a bit literal ? Many shift span more than one day but are considered to be a days work.

It isn't uncommon for a Friday night shift to finish at 8 am Saturday.

As I said in the same post I had worked at a site that defined a 36 hour day, done for a technical reason. Don't worry I do not expect for you to understand.

I did a shift that started at 1 in the afternoon and finished at 4 in the morning. The fact that I had a half hour's break for a feed and toilet break does not mean that the shift are now two separate shifts. I can see what is meant by people that say that they do 28 hour days. They don't get time to sleep and therefore they have time to count the time between shifts as a break on the day as one shift.

You know you can go to the toilet anytime you need to?

You don't have to wait for a designated meal or rest break.

Oh, don't start that schitt again. I go to the toilet up to twice a shift -- depending on if and how much coffee I had beforehand. I did 6 hours before I had a meal break. Then again for when I reached midnight. I spent the last 3 hours doing the wash up with the understaffed night and big sales.

Actually, I would be surprised how anyone can do more than 24 hours without sleep. I can get up at 7am and go through to about 3 in the morning before I MUST sleep.

What part are you having trouble understanding? That I did a 14 hour day that included 2 half hour breaks?

I mean that someone who does a 14 hour shift might only have time to have a short break before they come back and do another 14 hour shift on the same day that rolls over into the next day. The fact that the shift moves into the next day does not negate that it can be called a 28 hour shift.
