But back to potato cake vs potato scallop, the thin piece of potato in batter, they do have a different name in different states. In NSW it's scallop and in Vic and Tas it's potato cake, for the same thing.


Potato cake in WA and as far as I know here in NSW are mashed potato with fish and other ingredients.


Bog standard fisho, milkbar, we just have scallops.

Don't get the Nazi ref but it certainly got a lot of ex-empire from all over. The Indians pretty much ran the trains when I was a kid, all came over before Indian independence. My fraternal grandmother's husband, although not ethnically Indian, also worked WA rail and lived in a WA rail house in East Perth.


Potato cakes are very German. Sydney/NSW got most of the Italians and SA got a load of Krauts.


I dunno. When we were in WA growing up, we called them potato fritters(grated), cakes(mashed) and scallops(sliced/battered). Never put any nationality to them.
