its not just Chinese rice either.......get the facts right!

Exactly.

Click on rhino's link and do a word search for 'China' and 'Asia' in the article he posted.

https://www.queenslandcountrylife.com.au/story/7245139/research-unveils-rice-pla...

Zero results.

Do the same thing on the abstract of the actual study:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0304389421007421

Zero results.

Now, look at this from the Department of Agriculture:

"Australians are estimated to consume about 300,000 tonnes of rice every year (ABARES 2019).

"About half of this volume typically comes from imports (mostly long grain rice, such as basmati and jasmine) and the other half from domestic production (mostly medium grain rice)."

Now ask yourself: is this a thread about rice, or racism?
Are you claiming Chinese rice doesnt contain microplastics?

The onus is on you to prove that it does.

There's nothing in your link mentioning China.

Moreover, the three different brands of rice cups I have in my pantry all have 'Product of Thailand' stamped on them.

By all means though, cut & paste the section from the report that mentions rice from China.

Can't do it, huh?

Lol   Grin

Chalk up another victory to GP.

A NEW study from the University of Queensland has revealed that humans are consuming three to four milligrams of microplastic per every 100mg of rice they consume - with more alarming data found from instant rice packages, that contain up to 14mg per serving.

Does it do any harm?

Some of the bulk bags of basmati that I buy, with the zip and the cotton seem you have to undo, contain a thin layer of plastic that deteriorates over time. Having it abraded by rice grains would not help.

Quote:
Fertility levels are declining for both men and women of all ages. Sperm counts in western men have more than halved over the past 40 years and continue to fall at the same rate, and the risk of miscarriage has increased. Extrapolation of this strong trend points to a median sperm count of zero by 2045.
There are many potential implications of this research. It casts a particularly uncomfortable light on the news that we each eat around a credit card’s worth of plastic every week due to microplastics in our food and drinks. Microplastic pollution is now associated with a very serious and deepening public health problem with multifaceted consequences for both individuals and societies.

Ah, so people are eating credit cards because their sperm count has gone negative?
Youve been talking to UnsubRocky.

Why would anyone buy non Australian rice?

Must be a rice traitor.

Embarrassed the glutinous stuff, cant seem to get it here.

Fair enough for specialist stuff, I used to buy the black rice but
I'm off the rice (and wheat). Has gotten rid of a few inflammation pains.
Black rice can contain high levels of arsenic if grown in contaminated soil.
Quote:
It's worth noting that like brown rice, black rice will have higher arsenic levels than white if they're grown in contaminated soils. To be safe, be sure to cook it with a higher water-to-rice ratio (arsenic is water soluble) and avoid rice grown in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and China

Im going to avoid overseas produce now, just means I have to give up some stuff I like, like that particular type of glutinous rice.

you say and imagine a lot of things, most of it as in this case is absolute horseshit.

I have a plastic bag of food in similar size to that of rice packages. When I empty that, I will weigh it to see if it gets to 5 grams. And even if weighs only 1 gram (for whatever f'n reason), I would be still comfortable in thinking that 140mg of plastic could leach off the packaging and into the food itself.

Microplastic ingestion doesn't come from the food you buy in plastic packaging it comes from the likes of packaging & other plastics breaking down with age once they are dumped into the environment.

I think you, rhino and I are agreeing on the same thing. The microplastics are coming from the packaging as they leach into the food. It is not just rice packaging that I think is the main issue. Any container that is plastic can lead to microplastic contamination of food or drink.
No, read again, we arent agreeing with you.

Actually, yes, I did misread.
